Another booster pump and rinnai installation in Chelmsford. This particular development has poor water pressure coming from the street at 38psi in the basement and 32psi on the second floor. Nothing a DAB industries mini box 3 can’t handle. Brining the pressure in the domestic water piping sustem to a constant 75 psi. Expansion tank installed after the booster to ensure the safety of the domestic water piping system.

When the tankless coil on the boiler just isn’t cutting it for a shower longer then 10 minuets indicates poor heat transfer into the coil from the surrounding boiler water. The best solution is to separate the hot water entity entirely. Now during the summer months when heat isn’t needed the Bradford white water heater will be the only appliance running saving the customer money and being able to achieve a long shower. We Installed a Honeywell thermostat mixing valve on top of the water heater as well to increase the capacity of the tank. A little flue pipe modification was needed to maintain safety an proper code specifications

The original call was for a leaking boiler relief valve. Upon arriving it was observeed the domestic thermal expansion tank had failed as well, containing about 4.5 gallons of water. With water weighing 8.34 pounds per gallon that’s 36 pounds held by the piping system.
One of the new code changes does not allow this anymore. The tank can not be supported by piping alone.
Our favorite means of supporting the tanks are with the hold rite expansion tank brackets. These ensure proper support of the tank and provide no risk of excessive tension on the piping system.

Today we changed out the leaking water heater and changed the flue pipe. Not only is scheduled 40 PVC, not legal to use anymore in Massachusetts for venting a gas appliance, but this was by far one of the ugliest most unsafe vents I’ve seen in a while.Upgraded to ipex 1738 flue pipe who’s is code and installed correctly with proper pitch and support.

Proper maintenance for your tankless water heaters should always include removing the cabinet cover and visually inspecting the heat exchanger. Leaks in the condensate collector can cause much larger issues, rot, shorting out electrical components, and worst of all property damage. Luckily for this customer the leak was found before any propety damage and the heat exchanger was under warranty

This rinnai had a 1/2” gas line feeding it. So when the client said their water heater was making a noise I knew right then it was an undersized gas issue.
The tapping on the bottom of the unit is 3/4” to give the proper volume of gas to allow the unit to operate at high fire. Undersized gas pipe to an appliance can sound like a train when it goes into high fire. That’s the appliance starving for gas.
Ran proper sized piping back to the manifold and made sure everything else in the home was sized accordingly.

Today was a fun one. A lot of unsupported pipes, improperly supported expansion tanks. Leaking corroded copper pipes from the 70’s as well as a leaking Htp-gl 119 storage tank. Fun mix or sweating copper and propress. Proper support isn’t just code it makes your pipes look better and last longer.
