At Blooming Gardens, we have been busy going from nursery to nursery looking for all the springtime arrivals of new plants. There is a bustling of people everywhere with smiles on their faces and flowers in their hands and baskets.
Springtime is knocking on the door and getting the garden ready for spring is something home gardeners look forward to all winter long. The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, and it's almost time for a new season to begin.
But there's more to preparing your garden for planting than paging through seed catalogs and daydreaming about juicy homegrown tomatoes. You'll want to take stock of your gear and supplies, make a plan, and get everything ready for a successful growing season.
Steps we should be taking to getting our garden ready for spring.
1- Prune Trees and Shrubs - time to remove any dead or damaged growth, removing cross branches, and shape the plant.
2- Check Tools and Equipment - it's a great idea to inspect tools and equipment you'll need to garden.
3- Inventory Seeds and Supplies - time to buy need seeds, but it's important to inventory any seeds, bulbs, or other propagation material you may have saved from previous seasons.
4- Plan Your Garden - this is the time gardeners look forward to: sitting down with your seed inventory, a stack of seed catalogs, and a notebook to dream up the new season's planting plan.
5- Order Seeds and Plant Start - once you've made your garden plan, it's time to order seeds.
6- Clean Up Garden Beds and Planters - time to clean up your garden beds and planters.
7- Prepare the Soil - you will want to prep garden beds, by either tilling or raking in organic compost.
8- Start Seeds Indoors - indoor seed starting is one of the best ways to save money when planting your garden.
As we look forward to spring, and we dream about our gardens, at Blooming Gardens, springtime is our favorite time of the year. Need help with your gardens, contact Daina at 985-688-7788 or email [email protected], and let's talk about your spring garden.
