Ever plug something in and notice the outlet feels warm? 🔥⚡
Here's what's going on—and when you need to call us right away.
**A little warmth? Usually okay.**
Outlets can feel slightly warm when you're running high-wattage stuff like space heaters, hair dryers, or power tools. That's normal—it's just working hard.
**Hot to the touch? That's a problem.**
If an outlet is HOT, discolored, or warm when nothing's even plugged in—that's not normal, and it's not safe.
**What causes dangerous heat:**
🔴 **Loose wiring** — This is the #1 culprit. Loose wires create resistance, which creates heat. Left alone, it's a fire risk.
🔴 **Overloaded circuit** — Too many devices pulling power = too much current = heat buildup.
🔴 **Worn-out outlet** — Old outlets lose their grip on plugs, creating poor connections and heat.
🔴 **Aluminum wiring (older homes)** — Aluminum expands and contracts more than copper, which can loosen connections over time.
**When to call us immediately:**
⚠️ Outlet is hot even when nothing's plugged in
⚠️ You see discoloration or scorch marks
⚠️ You smell burning plastic
⚠️ The outlet sparks when you plug something in
⚠️ The breaker keeps tripping
**What we do:**
We'll inspect the outlet and wiring, test for proper connections and grounding, replace anything damaged, and make sure your circuit can handle the load.
**Don't ignore it.**
