Hey Honey, I really like this... that's how many of my home projects start: My loving wife and business partner, who, after nearly 38 years knows me far too well, shows me something she saw somewhere online and says she "really likes it"... I, of course, have to show my masculine prowess by saying "I could do and/or make that"... Having set the trap, and hooked my ego, she says "really? cause I was thinking... (fill in the project blank)... In this case, the bait was "ocean wave epoxy" and the project was the little bar in the back of our house... and so it begins.

Have you ever been somewhere, seen something heavy sitting way up high and wondered "How Did They Get That Up There?"... well, if you ever go eat at Casa Santo Stefano in Ybor City, you can regale your dinner mates with your knowledge of how that horse got up there...

NOW FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT: Still a bar, but definitely different than previously highlighted bar projects. This one was at a new restaurant in Ft Meyers; two to three hours south of our shop depending on traffic. I liked this project because it had both metal work and reclaimed wood accents. We did most of the fabrication in the shop and then went down for two to three day stints to install. It was a new restaurant (in an existing building) so at least it was day work; long days, but day work nonetheless.

TRUTH IN ADVERTISING... I've been posting (and will continue to post), the "cool" projects we've done. Reality is that we do a lot of work that is far more mundane. Figured I needed to share some of that if, by chance, someone besides friends and family make their way to this page looking to have work done, they won't move on thinking we only do custom cabinetry. Secondly, We are always looking for workers and I wouldn't want someone looking at this page and thinking they will be building cool bars.... and then end up doing something far different.... SO, here are a few of our "other" jobs - including the one we are doing right now:

ONE LONG NIGHT IN A BAR... I know, blatant attention getter. However, not all of our work is at new restaurants. In fact we do more work in established restaurants - and they don't close during the day - ergo; night work. And since they open back up the next day; whatever we did the night before needs to be as transparent as possible to the customers. In this case, they closed at 10 PM. We're allowed in once the last customer leaves. They open for lunch at 11 AM the next day. Here's how we did it.

So for my second-ever post on facebook, i'm highlighting one of my favorite builds over the past few years (the last post on this page was my "first ever" facebook post). We were asked to build a "dumb waiter" for the wine cellar at the same restaurant as the previous post. First to clarify; the wine cellar is actually elevated as apposed to an actual "cellar"... this is Florida after all and we really don't do cellars here. The owner asked if we could build a dumb waiter that would lift cases of wine from the floor up to the stair landing... a novelty piece for sure, but he'd seen a picture on line (which he gave me), and thought it would be a good add to the restaurant décor. My answer, as always, was "of course we can build that"! I really liked the build because first; I love working with metal, and second; it was a challenge to figure out how to do it and I like a challenge...

We are really good at what we do. And I'm really bad at showing it off. Let's try to change that. So... I'm going to ...

We are really good at what we do. And I'm really bad at showing it off. Let's try to change that. So... I'm going to start highlighting what we've done over the past few years... First up: A bar we built and installed at a new restaurant in a historic building in Ybor City. We did lots of other work for this restaurant that I'll highlight in subsequent posts.... with Brad Simpson
