Change. Transition. Rebuilding.

It’s difficult. We aren’t accustomed to it. Never will be. As humans we do everything to deter ourselves from it. We drive and drive until we drive ourselves crazy just so we don’t see change because, change is difficult.

We don’t like the process. Because it’s a fight. We’d rather stay comfortable, most times comfortable is unhealthy. It’s too easy to become unhealthy and comfortable until you realize the change you want to see was available and ready for you years and years ago.

There’s two options. Conform to the world. Or break down and rebuild. Comfortable is easy, the difficult part is waiting to see the outcome of what could’ve been, with what should’ve been.

Be a difference maker in the process. Choose to rebuild.
Make it right. Take what isn’t, and make it what it is. Make it you, and build something beautiful.

“How long is my house going to look like this?”

Longer than you want. Less long than it feels.

Week three is the hard one. Walls open, floors covered, nothing installed yet, and your house looking worse than the day we started.

Dust is not damage.

Under the plastic is new framing, clean mechanicals, and a room worth the wait. None of it photographs well. All of it is why you hired us.

Nothing went wrong. That is the job.

A change order is a change. It is not a missed scope.

A change is a new selection, or something behind a wall that nobody could have known was there. That is real, and it gets documented before we touch it. You are educated on the reason, what needs to be addressed, and multiple options to take on the issues.

A miss is on us. We are the experts. You hired us to see what you could not. If we did not see it, that is not your line item.

That is not a bad day for us. It is the opportunity to show up well.

Confidence in your home. Peace with your budget. That is the job.

To be honest, I hate “trends”.

I don’t think anybody gets to hand out the label.

Chic is carving your own path. Taking the risk. Building the thing. Shaking up the room with an idea everyone said was too much.

What is actually chic is that you wake up and control the controllables. Then you do it again tomorrow.

If you are in the ugly middle of yours, you are right where you need to be. Keep going.

Where does your money go if “you aren’t going to be doing any of the work?”

Story time..

Last month, our smallest job of the year nearly became our biggest problem.

Both washer waterlines let go on a Friday at 5:30. Brand new home. Homeowners at the cabin. Faulty valve, since recalled. Missed during new home construction. Yes, these things happen.

Our crew was still on site. I was there that night and through the weekend pulling water out of a house that was already finished and already paid for.

A $15,000 cabinet job that came within inches of a six figure claim.

No, I am not always the one swinging the hammer. I am the one who answers the phone at 5:30 on a Friday.

That is the part you are actually buying.
