This is a properly functioning retention pond on W. University Ave., DeLand FL. The first picture was taken on Tuesday October 8th. The second picture was taken on Tuesday October 15th, one week later, post hurricane Milton.

Perhaps we could have more of these and less new construction developments. 🤔

I'm thinning out some mature 6' Frost w**d,
Verbesina virginica. It's too big to pot up for the October plant sale, but can be easily transplanted to your yard now. Native, but aggressive. Tall, with white flowers that bloom starting in the late summer.

Signs are $10 (a suggested donation)

All proceeds go to the Firecracker circle/ Garden Club of DeLand charities

The signs are weather resistant and can be reused each year.

Mow less this spring. 🐝🐞🦋

Chris Cloudman, Mayor of DeLand recently joined members of The Garden Club of DeLand to officially recognize the beginning of “Less-Mow Spring” - a voluntary initiative encouraging property owners to limit lawn mowing during the Spring to allow more foraging space for pollinators.

As the first Monarch City USA in Florida and a Tree City USA, DeLand understands the significance of pollinators contributing to our ecosystem and we are proud to be a part of this initiative!
