Most people know Manhattan for its usual landmarks, but Washington Heights, also known as “Little Dominican Republic,” tells a different story. Since the 1960s, it has been home to NYC’s largest Dominican community, shaped by vibrant culture, energy, and storefronts that give the neighborhood its identity.

The Radio Tower & Hotel is a 24-story mixed-use “vertical village” designed by Stonehill Taylor and MVRDV for Youngwoo & Associates. It is the first significant mixed-use development in Washington Heights in nearly 50 years, introducing the area’s first boutique hotel, more than 100,000 SF of Class-A office space, and 8,000 SF of retail.

Working alongside G-Tech Elevator Associates, VDA Elevator & Escalator Consulting and Stonehill Taylor, we manufactured and installed all passenger and service elevator interiors. The modern cab design is defined by a split ceiling and back wall. A blackened steel half-drop ceiling pairs with Formica Group glossy Mouse laminate, while Forms+Surfaces Vivichrome Chromis glass with an etched tile pattern anchors the back wall and right-side panels. The composition is completed with blackened steel left-side panels, fronts, base, and reveals, plus a hand-painted artwork by artist Denisouch on a blackened steel panel. MAN-D-TEC, INC. strip lighting traces the ceiling and back wall border and the edges of the side walls, reinforcing the clean, architectural feel.

Rooted in the Heights and built for what’s next, Radio Tower & Hotel stands as a marker of Washington Heights’ future while honoring the story that has always been there.

At M Social New York Downtown, these elevator interiors are not isolated moments. They connect the hotel’s key touchpoints, from arrival to restaurant, meeting floors, and guestrooms above, reinforcing a cohesive design narrative throughout the stay.

Reflective black surfaces and controlled contrast create an interior identity that feels modern and composed. The lighting articulates proportion and defines edges, while a consistent metal package carries through the points of contact: Blackened Stainless Steel at the handrail, transom, frieze and reveals, doors, and fronts. Underfoot, Shaw Contract Solitude LVT in Char grounds the cab for daily hotel traffic.

This is how a renovation feels complete. The in-between spaces are designed with the same intention as the destinations.

At 55 Church Street, these elevator interiors are built on high contrast, reflective surfaces, and a precise lighting grid that feels architectural and immersive. The ceiling sets the tone with Colourtex Black Mirror by Rimex Metals USA, creating a dark plane that amplifies the geometry of light. From there, Acolyte LED ASI Channel LED strips become the defining detail, dividing, framing, and sharpening each surface.

The back wall features two butt-joint panels of Black Onyx Glass, with Black Gloss laminate by Formica Group below, split by an ASI Channel LED strip for a crisp linear break. The side walls carry the same grid logic. Upper sections use nine Colourtex Black Mirror panels, separated by LED channels. Lower sections continue with six Black Gloss laminate panels, again separated by the same channels. Perimeter lighting wraps the cab using the ASI Channel system, giving the interior a clean, dimensional outline.

In Manhattan’s Financial District, 55 Church Street, now M Social New York Downtown, has been reintroduced as a newly renovated hotel where modern design and city life intersect. Following a $50 million full renovation, the property has been comprehensively reimagined, from the arrival experience to its public spaces, positioning the hotel as a social hub for Downtown Manhattan. In hospitality, the experience is shaped as much by movement as destination. The in-between spaces matter.

That is where our scope begins. United Vertical Group delivered a multi-elevator interior package for 55 Church Street, in coordination with Avalon Collective, Nouveau Elevator and VDA Elevator & Escalator Consulting.

The detailing is what makes it feel intentional. Radial corners at the ceiling and handrail refine the lines and reinforce the cab as a designed space, not a standard box.

As part of the renovation and repositioning of The Gardens at 780 Third, led by A+I - we modernized ten passenger elevators with an interior concept that balances warmth and precision. Overhead, a drop ceiling finished in T22 Quartz Bronze by Rimex Metals USA is detailed with Man-D-Tec 4590 perimeter lighting, creating a clean, dimensional glow that defines the cab’s geometry. The palette continues through oxidized bronze accents and a full-length bronze-tinted mirror, while floor-to-ceiling half-round white oak slats introduce a tactile softness that keeps the space feeling elevated rather than purely utilitarian. Underfoot, Solana concrete tile in Pewter by Concrete Collaborative grounds the design with a subtle, material-driven finish.

Luxury, at its best, isn’t a statement. It’s a sequence revealed in the thresholds, the materials, and the quiet moments in between.
