POP Architecture DPC

POP Architecture DPC POP Architecture creates inventive and optimistic buildings, spaces and places. Our projects are uniquely responsive to the needs of clients.

We integrate design and execution with a deep knowledge of construction methods and attentive client focused service, resulting in highly personal, value driven architecture. POP is a lifestyle-driven architecture studio with a focus on sustainability launched in New York in 2019 with residential, commercial, and institutional projects, and enhanced in 2020 with a presence in rural northwestern Co

nnecticut. We believe the most memorable spaces flow easily into one another, foster inspiring connections to landscape and history, and possess an intuitive functionality. For our principals, Okan Oncel and Jessica Pleasants, that includes a devotion to living spaces that elevate the joy of entertaining in the spirit of the Mediterranean lifestyle that nurtured Okan’s love for radiant design. We begin every project with a period of dynamic and playful interaction, in which needs and aspirations are transformed into a highly detailed concept. Listening, exchange, and visualization continue as a design evolves and becomes reality, so that the client feels more like a co-creator than a consumer. In our innovative design process, clients enjoy a real-time experience in which they witness their vision and preferences transform into final designs through virtual reality technology with stunning, lifelike 3D visuals. POP, which stands for Pleasants Oncel Practice but also reflects the vibrancy of our designs, is distinct among boutique firms for its family makeup—Okan and Jessica are married with young children—as well as its multidisciplinary organization. Representing expertise in architecture and construction, Okan and Jessica practice a robust creative process in which innovation and comfort are equally informed by budget and project management. Our unique structure not only ensures the constructability and overall value of every design, but also supports a shared vision of design excellence. We also use Building Information Modeling to integrate the design and construction process, which minimizes errors and improves efficiency. POP’s multidisciplinary method is founded on a spirit of collaboration. Our principals and team members routinely reach across professional borders to propose ideas, challenge assumptions, and assure quality. We also pride ourselves on serving clients foremost.

Here’s one of our favorite shots of as captured by expert photographer . Although the home is compact at only 2500 square feet, the expansive views into the adjacent forest and double height atrium create a spacious, calming ambiance. This in-house rendering shows a partial view of the oak kitchen, private entry foyer and spacious living and dining area. An extensive wrap around terrace distinguishes this apartment from the rest! It’s always fun designing with little ones in mind. This playroom takes advantage of high ceilings. A soffit that’s hiding mechanicals drove a stair concept that widens as it ascends. Looking forward to executing this in the coming weeks.

We recently completed a project in Manhattan’s Carnegie Hill neighborhood. The apartment is on one of the most picturesque blocks on the Upper East Side. We prioritized opening up a sightline from the entry, raising the ceiling height and introducing arched openings to delineate distinct spaces. The apartment was fully gutted, but this simple idea has a strong impact. We’ll be sharing more photos of this true transformation, beautifully executed by .inc and captured by

A palette of sophisticated colors, supple textures, and a space-saving daybed makes this former maid’s bedroom into a cozy and inviting space. This reno was part of a full transformation that brought the Upper West Side pre-war apartment firmly into the modern age without losing sight of its historical charm. Photographed by .
