🔧 WHY DO OLD VALVES GET STUCK? 🚿

Over time, mineral deposits, corrosion, and rust can build up inside plumbing valves, making them difficult or impossible to turn. Lack of use can also cause internal parts to seize, especially in older plumbing systems.

💡 Pro tip: Never force a stuck valve! You could break the handle, damage the valve, or cause a leak. Sometimes, the safest solution is to replace the valve.

At Nonstop Plumbers NYC, we know how to handle old plumbing the right way! 💪

🔧 STUCK SCREW? HEAT CAN MAKE THE DIFFERENCE! 🔥

A stuck or seized screw can make even a simple plumbing repair difficult. One solution is carefully applying heat to the surrounding metal.

🔥 Why does heating help? Metal expands when heated. This expansion can help loosen corrosion and break the bond holding the screw in place, making it easier to remove.

Other options include penetrating oil, an impact driver, or a screw extractor, depending on the situation.

⚠️ Always check for nearby plastic, rubber seals, gas lines, and flammable materials before applying heat.

At Nonstop Plumbers NYC, we know the right technique makes all the difference. 💪🔧

Why use the old method?
Tight spaces: A hacksaw can work where a tubing cutter doesn’t have enough room to rotate.
Low cost: A hacksaw is inexpensive and widely available.
Old plumbing systems: Traditional plumbers often used hacksaws before modern tubing cutters became common.
Different pipe conditions: A hacksaw can cut pipe that is difficult to access with a standard cutter.

Wax under the toilet is usually toilet bowl wax ring residue. The wax ring sits between the bottom of the toilet and the drain fl**ge to create a watertight and odor-tight seal.

Why is wax coming out from under the toilet?

1. Excess wax: Some wax can squeeze out during installation. A small amount around the base doesn’t automatically mean there’s a leak.
2. Toilet installed incorrectly: The wax ring may have been compressed unevenly, or the toilet may not sit flat.
3. Loose toilet: Movement can break the seal and allow wastewater to leak.
4. Wrong wax ring size: A ring that’s too thick or poorly fitted can squeeze out excessively.

How to know if there’s a problem:

* Dry wax, no smell, no moisture: It may simply be excess wax from installation.
* Water around the base after flushing: Possible failed wax seal.
* Sewage smell: The seal may not be airtight.
* Toilet rocks when you sit on it: The toilet needs to be secured and the seal checked.

Important: Don’t just scrape away the wax if you suspect a leak. The proper fix may require removing the toilet and replacing the wax ring.
