Concealed door details at GRIMM GALLERY. Direct access to a storage room is provided through a concealed door in the gallery. This is achieved by continuing the gallery wall assembly over the door through the use of an offset pivot hinge.⁠

As opposed to introducing a dropped ceiling to contain ductwork as typical, the gallery is served by a network of ducts located behind the side walls in order to preserve the existing ceiling and floor fabric.⁠
⁠
The shadow gap at the ceiling and floor interface serve the dual function of air supply and return respectively.⁠

ICNCLST HQ occupies the ground floor of the historic Woods Mercantile Building at 50 White St, a designated landmark within the Tribeca East Historic District.⁠

Built in 1865, the building is an example of palazzo style architecture which was based on Italian Renaissance prototypes.⁠

In opposition to the standardized white box gallery typology, the intention was to preserve the layered history of the space by retaining the patchwork of flooring and ceiling materials. The texture of these original elements is contrasted by the refined exhibition walls.⁠

The design introduces a mezzanine level in the space containing a series of meeting rooms, kitchen and storage rooms below. Both levels are connected with a bleacher stairs taking reference from the New York City stoop as a focal space to gather.⁠
⁠
The volume is constructed of whitewashed plywood clad in a fiberglass reinforced (FRP) grating which extends from the face of the volume to serve as the balustrade above. ⁠
