A mix of bold patterns, vintage pieces, and abundant natural light gives this sitting room in our Southampton project its relaxed character, while an original suspended Bubble Chair by Eero Aarnio adds an unexpected note.

A closer look at the sunroom of our Southampton project.

Vivid blue floors anchor this light-filled retreat, layered with vintage pieces including a pair of Vivai del Sud bamboo and rattan folding screen mirrors and 1970s Space Age lounge chairs. Coastal references, natural materials, and collectible furnishings give the room its playful character.

Frank Lloyd Wright (1867–1959) was one of the most influential architects in history. A visionary who believed buildings should grow from their surroundings, not be imposed upon them.

He called this philosophy organic architecture, and few works embody it more fully than the Yamamura House in Ashiya, Japan (1924): today known as the Yodoko Guest House. Built for sake brewer Kosaku Yamamura, the structure cascades down a hillside in terraced levels, its intricate concrete ornamentation inspired by Japanese aesthetics and Wright’s own geometric language.

One of only a handful of Wright-designed buildings in Japan, it stands as a testament to his belief that architecture should be inseparable from its landscape, its culture, and its time.

We brought together an Angelo Mangiarotti table and Pierre Jeanneret chairs for the dining room of this Upper East Side townhouse. The Gio Ponti chandeliers and sconces he designed for Venini give the whole space this welcoming warm glow.

Monumental double staircase designed by Jean Prouvé in 1928 for the Hôtel de l’Ermitage in Vittel, France.

One of Prouvé’s earliest built works, the Ermitage staircase was created while he was still working as a wrought iron craftsman. Even then, it revealed the geometric precision that would later define his career, years before establishing his atelier and pioneering the folded sheet metal construction that cemented his place in modern architecture.

The Valley House by Beatriz Meyer and Elisa Friedmann sits on a plateau within a serene valley in Brazil, designed as a prefabricated single-story residence that stretches low across the landscape.

Its long, horizontal framework blends seamlessly with its surroundings, minimizing impact on the land while opening the interior through expansive glass walls. A raised steel structure lifts the home lightly above the ground, allowing air and light to pass beneath, while deep overhangs and a restrained palette of wood and glass respond quietly to the climate and terrain.
