Andre Architecture worked with and to develop a home inspired by mid-century modern architecture and the natural surroundings of a forest site up in the catskills.

We quickly found purpose - not in the building, but in the site itself - by placing a low-profile house along the western edge bluff to create a single yard with optimal open space. The house would bend at an angle to open itself up to the southern sky to harvest the best daylight. This new hillside clearing, in conjunction with the architecture, would serve as both the point of arrival and destination - a condition made possible by the seclusion offered of a forest site.

A 17-unit residence building on Ocean Parkway depicts the luminous polycarbonate double-wall facade giving new life to the building at night.

Designed by Andre Architecture and showcased by Forbes Global Properties as a boutique development opportunity along the nationally-historic boulevard in Brooklyn, New York.

The design and source rendering are original creations of our studio. The video animation was produced with AI, although it maintains our hand & styling.

Natural pools and native plantings dissolve the boundary between architecture and landscape, while cast-in-place concrete defines the home—chosen for its strength, durability, and ability to exist in direct contact with the earth. Passive building and site design strategies are integrated throughout, allowing prevailing breezes to move across the water and naturally cool the interiors. Expansive operable walls and deep overhangs regulate daylight, provide shade, and promote cross ventilation.

Designed for climate and disaster risk, this all-concrete home is embedded into the natural slope, using earth as a thermal buffer while resisting lateral forces against high-severity storms. Structure and landscape operate in symbiosis. Aquascapes and horticultural systems extend across the site, integrating amenities and engulfing the house itself with a green roof system.

Much of the project’s development focused on evaluating the feasibility and cost implications of constructing an all-concrete home. To study this, we developed parallel pricing models comparing conventional wood-frame construction with an all-concrete system. Multiple bidders were consulted to ensure accurate scope and pricing.

Ultimately, concrete proved cost-competitive, particularly when utilized as both the interior and exterior finish. Its durability, structural resilience, and thermal mass performance aligned closely with the priorities of both the owner and design team.

This animation explores the primary bedroom suite at the Fillmore Place, which transforms a 19th-century carriage house in Williamsburg’s Historic District into a bespoke, state-of-art residence. Defined by it's historic construction and raw industrial character, the building itself serves as a framework for modern adaptation.

The signature design feature, the three-story atrium, is visible in the corner of the primary suite—drawing natural light deep into the home to connect the interior spaces. A custom three-story chandelier reinforces this concept.

The project is currently under construction with Andre Architecture as designer and architect.

Proposal for the Bauhaus Bathroom design competition.

A rotated duplication of the original garage footprint forms the visitor center, set slightly out of the primary sightline. Made of lightweight, prefabricated materials and reflective surfaces, it recedes into the landscape without blocking views. Where the two footprints overlap, continuity and disruption combine to guide movement between the historic building and the new insertion. The reorientation frames a controlled visual axis through the cypress grove toward the house, and reception and support spaces are integrated along this axis to uphold the original structure’s clarity and restraint.

Proposal for the Bauhaus Bathroom design competition for@historicnewengland.

This project proposal embraces the garage of this landmark Bauhaus residence as a deliberate act of entry to its historic grounds. Through restoration efforts, subtle interventions, and the addition of a new bathroom and facility structure, the proposal choreographs the visitor’s arrival, orientation, and movement through the landscape. Positioned as an adaptive reuse, the proposal seeks to dignify the historical significance of the original garage and expand on its contemporary role.
