Our very own in San Diego!

While we are busy drafting and designing back in New York, our architect Nell Taranto has been at the absolute epicenter of architectural innovation! From June 10 - 13, the San Diego Convention Center hosted the premier event of the year: The AIA Conference on Architecture & Design (AIA26).

From visionary keynotes and hundreds of continuing education sessions to the massive Expo floor, it’s been an incredible week of learning, networking, and exploring the future of our industry.

Nell is heading back to the office fully inspired and armed with the latest global design trends. Swipe left to catch a glimpse of the AIA26 atmosphere!

Designing through play!

As part of Architecture Week 2026, Nell H. P. Taranto led an interactive Animal Dice Game with students - turning creativity into architecture.

Each group rolled the dice to discover their “client” (animal) and building type, then designed spaces based on real architectural thinking:

Who is the client?
What environment do they live in?
What spaces do they need?

From penguin gyms to monkey libraries, students explored imagination, problem-solving, and design in a fun and engaging way.

This is how future architects begin.

This month, our Chapter President, Thomas J. Soviero, AIA, NCARB represented the AIA Staten Island Chapter at the AIA Leadership Summit 2026 in Washington, D.C.

Over several days of national engagement, Tom joined nearly 700 AIA leaders from across the country to strengthen leadership practices, advance advocacy priorities, and bring meaningful insights back to our members.

Events like this remind us that strong local chapters are built through national collaboration and shared vision.

We are proud to see Staten Island represented on the national stage and look forward to applying what was learned to further elevate our Chapter in 2026 and beyond.
