I love having violets as a ground cover. They are native, spread very nicely, and have these gorgeous spring flowers. They’re also a great snack, if you’re into that sort of thing. Both the leaves and flowers are edible. In my own garden, every meal and after work cocktail gets a sprinkling of violets in late spring. Like life they are fleeting, so why not celebrate?

Microgreens are always our first harvest of the year from this edible garden. I’m grateful for such an early spring crop because my patience for harvesting summer veggies and fruits really starts to thin as the weather gets nicer and nicer. But you can’t rush nature. So you have to find something to do in the meantime.
