The transformation at our Shelter Island project is beginning to come into focus.

With drywall nearly complete, we're getting our first real look at just how dramatically the original house has been reimagined. New double-height spaces at the entry foyer and dining area introduce an entirely different sense of scale, while details like the “upside-down” stair give the architecture a more sculptural character.

Other elements are still being worked through on site. Circular skylights will be illuminated at night, with a ring of light designed to graze the surrounding ceiling, an effect we're currently testing with a mockup. In the primary bath, exposed Zehnder America, Inc. ERV exhaust tubing offers a glimpse of the high-performance systems that will eventually disappear behind the finished walls.

An outdoor greenhouse addition, transformed into a home office.

This rooftop enclosure offered incredible East River views, but it was never designed to be fully integrated with the apartment's interior. It was minimally insulated, difficult to weatherproof, prone to overheating, and built against an exterior brick wall that still needed to shed water onto the roof below the greenhouse floor.

Low ceilings created another challenge. With no room for conventional pendant or recessed fixtures, discreet track lighting was mounted directly to the existing greenhouse structure, providing flexible illumination without making the space feel lower. Exterior-grade finishes were detailed for an interior setting, porcelain flooring was selected to match the wood floors throughout the apartment, and efficient environmental controls made the room comfortable year-round.

These photos follow the project from the original greenhouse, through construction, to the finished office, showing how each design decision responded to the unique constraints of the existing space.

Sometimes the biggest design decisions happen in the spaces between buildings.

At our recently completed Park Slope Townhouse project, where a historic townhouse and carriage house meet in a unique L-shaped configuration, the challenge wasn't simply connecting two buildings. It was bringing natural light deep into the center of the home while preserving the character of both structures.

The answer became a ribbon skylight: a narrow glazed link that bridges the two buildings while drawing daylight through the heart of the project.

This carousel follows that idea from the site's earliest days, through demolition, structural work, and masonry restoration, to the completed space. Some of our favorite moments aren't just the finished photographs, but seeing an idea gradually take shape as steel, brick, and glass come together.

There was palpable excitement as TTC's Jim Saisakorn and Jessica Shaw walked through the site of our 32 Walker Condominium project.

From the custom light installation in the entrance gallery and soaring ceiling heights to new windows in the historic cast-iron arched openings, boxes of Molteni&C cabinetry awaiting placement, and panoramic views from the roof terrace, every detail offered another glimpse of what's to come.

An impromptu huddle with our partners at First Standard Construction was a reminder that projects like this are shaped through close collaboration and countless thoughtful decisions. Seeing those ideas take physical form on site is one of the most rewarding stages of the design process.

With summer in full swing, we're revisiting an outdoor pool and lounge project completed for a longtime client in Water Mill.

The project was conceived as a series of distinct yet connected spaces for relaxing, entertaining, dining, and spending long days outdoors. Soft, upholstered furnishings, a bright, inviting palette, and carefully selected pieces extend the comfort of the home's interiors outdoors.

Designed for family life as much as entertaining, the space balances comfort, flexibility, and ease, creating an environment that invites people to settle in and enjoy the season.

For TTC Partner Jim Saisakorn, travel is never just travel—it's a chance to study the buildings that have stood the test of time.

While visiting Greece, Jim spent as much time taking in the architecture as the views, capturing the Parthenon from every angle. It's a reminder that great design isn't just about what you see at first glance, it's about proportion, permanence, craftsmanship, and the ideas that continue to inspire centuries later.

Those same principles shape the way we approach every project. Inspiration can come from anywhere, even halfway across the world!

Our founder, Wayne Turett, loves to use his own Passive House in Greenport as a testing lab and explore how sustainable architecture can perform. Sometimes, hitting rock bottom is exactly what the blueprint ordered.

When our clients for this Upper West Side Townhouse sought to expand their existing cellar space, there was only one small obstacle standing in the way: several feet of solid NYC bedrock – but we weren’t going to let that stop us.

Over the course of a few months, the amazing team at Think Construction chipped away at the rock to excavate the ultimate entertainment lounge (with a golf simulator and media room)—snapping a couple of cool photos along the way.
