We’re open to the public on Saturdays from 10-4pm at our Brooklyn location for people working on shelving projects, and other DIY. Reclaimed wood shelves bring beauty, history and a sustainable material; while helping city dwellers to reclaim space. We offer wide planks, and custom cutting on-site.

For those who can’t make it on the weekend, we can usually accommodate weekday times after 4pm. Weekdays at other times are reserved for serving the trade and home restoration projects with flooring and custom millwork.

Intro to Reclaimed Woodworking
Sunday February 3 from Noon to 5 pm

At this hands-on and fun workshop, you will construct a small modern bench/side-table using reclaimed Eastern White Pine from an 1860’s lower Broadway warehouse.

We’ll discuss the journey of the woods through ancient forests, log camps, an old New York City building - before finally reaching the hands of workshop participants. We’ll cover a few basic woodworking tools to cut, assemble and finish the minimalist-style and versatile piece.

The workshop is for entry-level DIYers and people interested in understanding the material and its transformation from rough salvage to furnishing. It will be held at Sawkill Lumber (Crown Heights location). Class price is discounted twenty-percent for this first pilot session. We are a warehouse and shop environment, so please dress appropriately.

Cost: $150 per person (including antique wood and materials)

Date: Sunday, February 3, 2019 from 12 noon to 5 pm

Location: Sawkill Lumber, located at 71 Troy Avenue Brooklyn NY 11213 - between Atlantic and Pacific Avenues at the border of Crown Heights and Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn.

Trains: A/C to Kingston/Throop (Local train) or Utica (Express) - 7 minute walk from the Utica stop on the A and C lines. Street parking is usually available.

Instructors: Nick Clark builds, finishes and installs all kinds of stuff for a fabrication shop at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Toby Gardner helped to run Brooklyn Woods, a non-profit woodworker training program.
