In NYC, most bedrooms have to solve for something — an awkward layout, no closet, a window that doesn’t line up with the bed wall. Custom doesn’t always mean elevated finishes. It means building around the constraints instead of ignoring them: millwork that replaces a closet, a desk carved into what would’ve been dead space.

Not all bathroom walls are built the same. Prewar buildings have solid masonry behind the tile; postwar buildings use steel-stud framing and drywall — and that structural difference is a big reason renovation quotes vary so much by building age. Know what you’re working with before you get a bid.
