The Partners, Associates, and staff of MJM+A Architects are pleased and proud to announce the promotion of Bryan Gonzalez to Project Manager.

Since joining the firm in 2022, Bryan has quickly immersed himself in both the drafting room and on-site fieldwork, approaching every assignment with enthusiasm, confidence, and professionalism. Over the past three years, he has become an integral part of the firm, consistently rising to the challenges presented by increasingly complex projects.

Bryan brings a steady and highly skilled hand to his work, excelling in drafting, the development of intricate architectural and structural detailing, and the preparation of clear, well-written reports. His strong understanding of MEP coordination has further enhanced his contributions, making him a valuable and trusted member of our team.
Throughout his time at MJM+A, Bryan has worked closely with the Studio Director and firm partners, assisting in proposal development and seamlessly transitioning projects into the Construction Administration phase. With his recent promotion, Bryan has taken on an expanded role in our exterior façade repair projects while continuing to build expertise in our façade and parapet inspection programs.

We congratulate Bryan on this well-deserved advancement and look forward to working with him as he continues to grow and excel as the accomplished professional he has become.

Congratulations, Bryan.

Emerging Ecologies’ at MoMA Looks to Architecture’s Past for a Fresh Perspective on a Sustainable Future

Right around the corner from our offices is an incredibly ambitious exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art on 53rd street between 5th and 6th avenues. The exhibit brings a fresh perspective of our current ecological crisis through the lens of the birth of the environmental movement. The focus is on the critical role that architecture played in the conceptualizing of solutions to problems that while serious at the time paled in comparison to the realities of today. The article is worth a read and if you are in the area, definitely worth a visit. We’ll meet you there.

Winners of the 2023 Architecture At Zero competition recognize innovative proposals from students and design professionals

We have always considered MJM+A a firm dedicated not only to serving the needs of our clients but to furthering our chosen profession in every way possible. Thus we are all so enthusiastic when we are exposed to competitions that enable student architects to stretch out and excel. This particular competition was really interesting in that it focused on designing environments for agriculture, not only a noble subject but an area in which we need innovation to stem the detrimental effects of climate change on livestock and crop production. Check out these designs and the rationale behind them.

Are Architecture Firms the Next Design Thinking and Innovation Giants?

Today, with all of the societal changes brought about by climate change, the advent of technology, the norm events such as pandemics, changing attitudes around work/life balance, etc., the architect’s role as thought leader has never been more prevalent… and needed. We all know that architecture is the key juncture between disciplines like art, engineering, sociology, psychology, etc. and now it seems like these will all come into play heavily in developing the new types of structures, environments, and business/living communities to deal with the sea change we are seeing in the world. Read on and see how this can play out.

When it comes to sustainable architecture, this person walks the walk

In the desert of New Mexico, Mike Reynolds of the Earthship Biotecture Academy in Taos is spinning a new story around sustainable architecture. He is building what he calls “Earthships”, residential designs built out of adobe and upcycled materials such as cans, bottles, and tires. Earthship residents rely on solar panels for electricity, a greenhouse full of herbs and edible plants to supplement their food supply, and a cistern to collect rainwater for bathing and drinking. This is the cutting edge of architecture and something that we do not readily come in contact with up here in the Northeast and especially NYC. But the attention to detail and adherence to mission is admirable. Pleaae take a look at Mike’s incredible vision.
