At installation and a focus
session, we test the dynamic or tunable white color temperature throughout the apartment, making sure the shift from 2,700K warm white to 6500K cool white is smooth. We collaborated with the Architect in the commissioning of the controls and scene setting, allowing the residents to easily respond to the day or season and adapt the light to the exterior context. Comparing the warm end of the range to the cooler end (represented in the rendering) shows what an impact color has on our perception of a space's tone or feeling. Sure, a rendering is worth a
thousand words. But when it comes to lighting design, the mock-up is what matters. To simulate the spatial conditions for this residential proiect, we worked with the project millworker who built a section of the corridor at full scale. Testing the fixture choice and refining the composition was essential to achieve the indirect glow on the ceiling that matched the client and design team's lighting intent, as seen in the rendering by .

In any environment, we look to incorporate multiple layers of light that add visual hierarchy, interest, and depth. For this
residential project, wall washers and downlights were added as counterpoint to the soft indirect layer of light, reflected on the ceiling from cove fixtures integrated into the apartment's system of custom millwork. Residents can dim and change the tunable-white color temperature of the fixtures, enhancing the visual connection to the exterior based on the seasons, time of day, and their mood.

Congratulations to the MFALD students for completing their Lighting Studio Thesis Final Reviews. This cohort was a group that completed their first year at Parsons online, and it is wonderful to celebrate their work today with a return to in-person reviews.
