The Downtown Partnership of Baltimore upgraded its litter baskets with CITIBIN’s BasketPlus trash receptacles. The difference shows up in how the area looks and feels for everyone who lives, works, or passes through.

The BasketPlus is CITIBIN’s take on the corner litter basket, with literally more curb appeal. Designed as a modern, modular alternative to the typical public trash receptacle, BasketPlus separates waste streams in style. Baltimore went with a combination of 1-module, 2-module, and 3-modules, based on the needs of each space.

The transformation from their previous trash receptacles to BasketPlus has made Downtown Baltimore a cleaner, more welcoming streetscape.

Better bins, better blocks.

A love letter to Brooklyn Heights, the neighborhood that's been with us since the very
beginning. 🖤

Since 2012, Brooklyn Heights has been an early adopter in everything: first residential clients, first Business Improvement District, first restaurants, first parks. This is our love letter to them for entrusting us with their trash!

Featuring brownstones, the Brooklyn Promenade, Montague BID, Felice, Chama Mama, Brooklyn Cat Cafe, and L'Appartement 4F.

Before ➡️ After

SoHo has some of the heaviest foot traffic in the city. Shoppers, workers, and visitors fill these blocks all day, and for years that meant weaving around trash bags piled up on the corners.

Now the same sidewalks tell a different story. The bags that used to block the way are contained inside CITIBIN waste enclosures along Broadway's cross streets, up off the pavement and out of reach of rodents.

Cheers to for making SoHo's streetscape work better for everyone passing through. 👏

SoHo just got a whole lot greener.

The SoHo Broadway Initiative is the first Business Improvement District to feature built-in planters on the large CITIBIN waste enclosure, and the streetscape is better for it.

Along Broadway's cross streets, the new trash enclosures do double duty. Each has a living green roof of sedum and allium, while large planters of ornamental shrubs and summer annuals sit alongside them, bringing color to the sidewalk and an extra buffer between pedestrians and passing traffic.

The plantings were designed and are cared for by The Horticultural Society of New York ().

One month in, the Initiative reported more than 3,500 trash bags kept off SoHo's busy sidewalk corners. Fewer bags on the sidewalk, more greenery in their place.

Cheers to our partners at , , NYC Sanitation, and NYC DOT for helping build a cleaner, greener SoHo.

A CITIBIN may be a trash enclosure. But it’s also a permanent public fixture that needs to work with the streetscape. Here in New York City’s Garment District, after the Knicks big win there was a DJ and spontaneous dance party around a trash enclosure.

We love being a part of this in our little way!

Announcing a new CITIBIN module: the corner bin.

Over the years we’ve seen many horizontally-challenged properties, without enough footprint to install a trash enclosure that fits their cans. So we designed a way to better optimize the available space.

The corner bin expands the footprint into an “L” or a “U” configuration to fit the available space. It gives you more options, and looks cool!

Another CITIBIN product that exists because customers asked for it.

Unsecured bins, lids that never quite close, cans with holes. Unconcealed trash is an open invitation to every rat on the block. According to the American Housing Survey, nearly 14.8 million households in the United States reported seeing rodents in the past year—and homes within half a block of exposed trash are significantly more likely to report pest activity.

Once rodents find a reliable food source, they return. The behavior is learned, and it's consistent. CITIBIN trash enclosures are built from sheet aluminum with strong welded seams, closing off every entry point pests would use. Cut off the access, and the cycle breaks.

New York never stops moving—cyclists cutting between buses, delivery riders, pedestrians on the go. In the middle of it all, a CITIBIN enclosure sits quietly on the curb quietly containerizing the trash.

That's the idea. A footprint sized for the curb, waste sealed and off the sidewalk—even branded, it reads as part of the streetscape that fits with the spirit of the community.

Public space works better when the infrastructure blends in.
