In the new piece by the National Archives Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer Patrick Madden, discover how The National Archives Museum, in collaboration with C&G Partners and Cortina Productions, used the power of machine learning to transform 13.5 billion paper documents and 30 billion electronic records into a completely reimagined 9,000-sq-ft permanent gallery space.

1️⃣ “Phygital” Displays: Explore topics that matter to you by selecting your interests on AI-powered kiosks, which augment original record displays, during your personalized journey through the nine themed exhibit halls.
2️⃣ Digital Backpacks: Anything you explore during the visit gets saved via your ticket barcode for further discovery at home.
3️⃣ Tech and Tradition: The AI experience allows the museum to display even more physical artifacts than the old layout, keeping the original history–like the iconic Rotunda–front and center.

New project: In “People. Building. Democracy.”, designed by C&G Partners, three interactive installations inside Virginia’s State Capitol reconnect visitors with the individuals, spaces, and systems that constitute American democracy.

View 250 custom-made portraits of key figures from the Capitol’s history, explore history through the layered 3D video model of Capitol Square, and follow the paths a bill takes to become law via the gravity-driven ball machine, all inside the working Capitol building.

“People. Building. Democracy.” is on view now.

OPEN NOW at the National Archives Museum in Washington DC, the brand-new Discovery Center designed by C&G Partners with Cortina Productions is an interactive arcade experience teaching children and families civics concepts. By playing games and solving puzzles, young visitors learn just how important citizens are in shaping the story of American democracy.

Dive into hands-on civics through arcade-style games: learn about the three branches of government in “Clause of Power,” match federal agencies to their support functions in “In Plain Sight,” groove through history in “Democracy Disco,” and practice democratic skills enshrined in the First Amendment in the 8-bit retro game “Speak Out!”

Visitors of all ages can explore the Discovery Center at the National Archives Museum to test their civic superpower skills today.

America celebrates its 250th birthday this weekend, so there’s no better time to explore the stories that brought us here.

Three new exhibitions designed by C&G Partners are open now at The National Archives Museum in Washington D.C. The largest, “The American Story,” invites visitors to chart a personalized journey through 250 years of history. C&G Partners collaborated closely with Cortina Productions to transform The National Archives’ vast civic repository into something newly legible and personal. The groundbreaking new AI-powered exhibition allows visitors to move through the broad holdings of the National Archives Museum along a personalized route of letters, maps, photographs, films, and founding documents, transforming the experience into a compelling journey shaped by their own curiosity.

How do you design a wayfinding system that complements an open-air museum’s collection?

Art and landscape are inseparable at Storm King Art Center. When Storm King, one of the world’s leading outdoor art museums, embarked on an ambitious campus expansion, C&G Partners envisioned a wayfinding system and map that unify the visitor experience across the site.

With a refined, minimalist visual language, signage that sustains the rhythms of exploration that define Storm King, and a new map that supports intuitive navigation and curiosity, the new system orients without distraction–as part of the landscape rather than an addition to it.
