Keep Your Cool During This Week's Extreme Heat

With temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s and even 100°, we wanted to share a few tips to help keep your family comfortable—and help you understand what your air conditioner may be experiencing.

First...Don't Panic!
During extreme heat, many air conditioning systems are doing exactly what they were designed to do.
Here's what many homeowners don't realize:
✅ Most residential A/C systems in our area are designed around outdoor temperatures of approximately 93°F. When temperatures climb well above that, it's normal for your system to work harder and gradually fall behind.
✅ Turning your thermostat from 72° down to 65° doesn't make the air colder. It simply tells your system to run longer.
✅ If it's 98-100° outside and your home is holding around 76-79° during the hottest part of the afternoon, your system may actually be performing normally.
Our phones ring off the hook during every heat wave with homeowners saying, "My thermostat is set to 70°, but my house is 78°." In many cases, their system is doing exactly what it should.
Help Your A/C Help You

Here are a few simple things you can do today:
✔️ Change your air filter.
✔️ Use a standard pleated filter instead of a high-restriction allergy filter during the heat wave. Better airflow means better cooling.
✔️ Trim grass, weeds, and landscaping away from your outdoor unit so it has room to breathe.
✔️ Set your thermostat to a comfortable temperature—and resist the urge to keep lowering it.
✔️ If you have a programmable thermostat, switch it to Permanent Hold until the extreme temperatures pass.
✔️ Keep blinds and curtains closed during the afternoon to reduce heat from the sun.
✔️ If you use a dehumidifier, empty it regularly. Lower humidity helps your home feel cooler.
A Few Things We'd Avoid This Week
❌ Installing a new smart thermostat.
❌ Trying internet DIY A/C "hacks."
❌ Switching to an ultra-thick air filter.
❌ Constantly adjusting the thermostat every hour.
Sometimes the best thing you can do is let your system do its job.
