Did you notice your National Grid bill going up even when you aren’t using more electricity?

That’s because National Grid increased its delivery rates on April 1 as part of a three-year rate plan for Upstate New York. Did your electric bill go up after a smart meter was installed? Most likely it wasn’t the meter raising your bill, but that it’s finally reading your usage accurately.

When that meter install happens around the same time as a rate increase, those two changes at once can be a nightmare for your budget.

We explained it more in our recent blog.

If you want to know how solar can reduce your electric bill, you can request a free solar savings plan for your home on our website.

Most people think they are paying 8 cents a kilowatt hour. That’s a supply rate and the smaller half of your bill. Add delivery, the basic service charge, surcharges and tax and a typical New York home is closer to 24 cents.

Check yours: bill total ÷ kWh used in the meter reading section.

Once you know your real number, we’ll show you what your roof would produce against it.
