Servicing a basement subfloor footing drain system for a customer in Newington today.
Any house, if they have a footing drain system, built before 1960 is going to have these clay pipes under the floor. Most are 3-in, these happen to be 4-in which makes it a lot easier to flush and clean.
The capacity is so much greater, remember the math class we had... When you double the diameter of a circle, the area quadruples.
So going from 3-in to 4 in, is not just a 1/3 or 33% increase in capacity, it's actually ~78% greater capacity.

This simple set-up allows safer movement on and off the roof.
This is useful for the last man down situation, where the rope can feed through the rope grab as usual, while also feeding around the anchor point. Allowing for easy rope recovery once on the ground, or in a safer position.

There's a lot of fired clay in this 94-year-old West Hartford house, from the roof, the walls, the chimney flue pots.
All terracotta products are made from clay, but not all clay products (like bricks) are terracotta.

This house has an amazing view of Hartford, and one of the earlier central vacuum systems made by Spencer Turbine.
