Army worm infestations have become widespread over Kay county and Cowley county. Keep your eye out. Your turf basically appears very dry in areas when in reality it’s army worms eating your leaf tissue. Treat as soon as you see symptoms. We are booked up trying to spray applications as well as keep up with army worms on both our golf courses (220 Acres!)... we will try the best we can to help anyone out but please don’t hesitate to try any DIY applications from a local hardware store, coop, Lowe’s, Walmart, etc. pretty much any insecticide spray will work. Sevin and Bifethrin are 2 of the most common. Tractor supply, atwoods, orschelns, etc will also carry these items.

Mowing height and mowing frequency are the 2 most simple and economic ways to combat w**d control along with your w**d control plan. Early season mowing heights should be low and gradually raising as the heat starts to set in. Frequency should be every 7 days and if you have the means do it twice weekly.

A little extra perspective from someone besides myself. I don’t make these things up. Weather plays a huge factor in growing any plant and we have not had growing weather yet at all! When the Bermuda isn’t actively growing, w**ds can outcompete and show through. Has nothing to do with what I have applied so far if the weather doesn’t cooperate! We will get through and things will start turning the corner soon!

Usually, by this time in May, Oklahoma's grass is dark green, and we're mowing it every week. That's hasn't been the case this year.

We are still actively applying fall preemergence. Don’t worry if we haven’t been by yet as we still have plenty of time. We have to delay for a minute to get trees removed on our golf courses and will resume spraying next week. Thanks for your patience and continued support!
