All of the County's collection sites and the landfill will be closed on Monday, September 5th, 2022 for the Labor Day Holiday. We will reopen on September 6th on a regular schedule. Please do not leave trash outside the gate when the sites are closed. This is considered littering and fines will be enforced. Any questions, feel free to contact my office at 828-737-5420. This is Eric Foster the Director for Avery County Solid Waste Department. I would like to announce the date for the annual Household Hazardous Waste Day. The date is August 27th, 2022 from 9:00am to 3:00pm. We are having the collection at 269 Old Vale Rd. We are located behind the Avery County Board of Education. There will be signs posted near the road for the entrance into the collection. Please remember to stay in your vehicle, Clean Harbor's employees will retrieve your material out of your vehicle. No contractors are allowed to utilize this event. We will not collect electronics or televisions for this event. We collect these every Saturday at the same location. Please visit the county's website at averycountync.gov and view the community news for more information. All other inquiries are under the solid waste section of the website. See you all Saturday, August 27th.

The Avery County Solid Waste Department would like to announce the Thanksgiving Schedule for all collection sites in the county. The sites will be closed on Wednesday, November 24th and Thursday, November 25th 2021. The sites will reopen on Friday, November 26th, 2021 on a regular schedule.

The Avery County Landfill will be closed on Thursday, November 25th and Friday, November 26th 2021 for the Thanksgiving Holiday. We will reopen on Saturday, November 27th at 9:00am. Thank you and everyone have a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving!

The County of Avery is now accepting electronics and latex paint every Saturday from 9:00am to 2:00pm behind the Avery County Board of Education. The address is 269 Old Vale Rd. Newland, NC 28657. Would like to remind everyone that we will not accept any contractors paint on these days.

The Solid Waste Department will be collecting electronics every Saturday during the month of January. The location is behind the Board of Education. The hours of operation will be from 9:00am to 2:00pm. We will return to the regular schedule of every second and fourth Saturday in February. Thanks and Happy New Year!

The Avery County collection sites and the landfill will be closed on Friday, January 1st, 2021. The sties will reopen on Saturday, January 2nd at 8:00am. The landfill will reopen at 9:00am. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

I would like to remind everyone that the collection sites will be closed on Wednesday, November 25th and Thursday, November 26th. We will reopen on Friday, November 27th at 6:30am. Everyone have a blessed and wonderful Thanksgiving.

The Avery County Landfill will be closed on Thursday, December 24th and Friday, December 25th for observance of Christmas. We will reopen at 9:00am on Saturday, December 26th.

The Avery County Solid Waste Department would like to announce the Christmas Holiday schedule for all sites. We will be open on Wednesday, December 23rd on a regular schedule. The sites will be closed on Thursday, December 24th and Friday, December 25th. the sites will reopen on Saturday, December 26 at 8:00am. This schedule will help with the increase in trash during the Christmas Holiday. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the office at 828 737-5420.
