Data Dive: In the 2021-22 field seasons, we conducted a High-Resolution Geophysical Survey of two discrete sediment borrow areas with different survey requirements within the Frying Pan Shoal complex. Morphological features such as detached, subaqueous shoals extending from the Cape Fear foreland and discrete areas of erosional scours/depressions were identified and quantified, and an archaeological/cultural assessment was performed as well. Our Geodynamics team collected data and initial site information for Duke Energy and Total Energies offshore wind projects. The data will be used to find mooring areas for buoys with the most negligible environmental impact but also allow for data collection to direct the development of the turbine locations.
