We got a call a couple weeks back regarding trying to fix blue stone steps. Upon arrival it appeared that the previous individuals didn’t put the correct material under the steps, nor did they overlap them enough. They were barely hanging onto the one below and you can see the top step eventually gave out.

We usually overlap our steps (16” steps) about 2-3” to make sure not only the base beneath is study but it has some solid foundation below to hold it up as well.

Stay tuned to see how these 17 steps got removed, reset and tons of drainage help!

Last week my family and I went to Gatlinburg, TN for our family vacation. We went last year but it was new to us, this year we got to enjoy the nature more!

Not only did we get to see the beautiful mountains from atop Clingmans Dome ( highest point in the Smokies & Tennessee) but we also visited Anakeesta and the beautiful handcrafted landscape and hardscapes they have.

And we made sure at least 5 times a day we mentioned to our girls to look at the pretty mountains and the incredible rocks. By day 3 it was “Oh yeah dad. So cool dad. Wow haven’t seen that dad. 😂

With getting to see more of nature this time around it has opened my eyes to what hardscapes and landscapes can really be, not everything needs to be concrete cookie cutter, or the same green is green plants. Nature is so much more.

Going into this fall season and into next year we want to push the envelope more, try things that look like they belong in Sussex County rather than trying to turn everything into the same thing.

With attempting things like this, it will push our limits, our mental strategies, and our work ethic. Will there be hiccups, more than likely. Will we practice and take our time, absolutely! Will we let you down, absolutely NOT!

For anyone on the fence about incorporating more nature into your property or looking for someone who can, give us a call.

While I am away on vacation, Cody has stepped up and has been knocking jobs out by himself that require a ton of weeding. The first job was in Sparta and hadn’t been refreshed in a couple years. The second one was Stillwater and also hadn’t been done in a couple years and had weeds up to 3.5’ tall!

Huge round of applause for Cody for stepping in while I am away. If you have any exterior jobs in mind, let me know and starting next week I can take look once in NJ again

Grace wanted to learn the mower today, of course the PTO is off. She’s just getting a feel for it, coming to a yard near you in 5 years. And Hailey is saving frogs from turning into salad.

Today, Lucky, learned what it is like to be a hardscaping pup. She tested out the pavers to make sure they are pup friendly and got herself a bonus of some treats from tractor supply.

Would you allow a dog on your job as long as they are cleaned up after?

Well it’s finally done, and no better day to finish it on a ridiculously humid Thursday where the shade came out to play at 6:30pm.

This two day transformation at this house in Hampton makes the front yard unrecognizable. We started by removing all of the overgrown plants (all of them) from the previous owner and removed a lot of unwanted pachysandra along the house and regraded the area and added new plants and dyed black mulch.
The customer wanted color all year round, that means winter too! So we came up with a plan of using evergreen trees and shrubs as well as a hydrangea tree to add that summer color, but what about winter color? We planted witch hazel and red stick dogwoods to give color all year.

We then removed 6 stumps hidden by tons of unwanted ferns. The customer wanted the front yard to be continuous to the street so we regraded the front area and gave them a mowable yard.

And we said goodbye to this college bound fellow, Hunter.

Today we say goodbye to Hunter, as he finished his second summer with us and heads back to LSU for college. This young man has grown so much and is always looking to learn and grow not only as a worker but as an individual! We hope to have him back next summer! Good luck Hunt!

Join us in wishing him safe travels back down to Louisiana! 🐯

I got a call a couple months back asking to come in and renovate the landscape of the new Benny’s Bodega location on Plains Rd in Augusta. I, Dallas (center), have known Benny’s wife, Heather, for over 25 years and was honored when they reached out.

Hunter (left) helped rip out all the plants with me in late May, while we got Ben on the machine too. The front sat untouched until mid July until other projects were completed so the landscape wouldn’t be ruined.

We reached out to our friends at Cerbo's Hampton Nursery LLC. to help us with some plants for the job and came up with a design that will fill in well over the years. I decided to go with the colors of their business and plant yellow day lily flowers, blue star junipers and wine weigelia (reds).

Cody (right) assisted with weeding out the area, applying weeding fabric, digging holes for the plants and installing the mulch and river rock. Thanks to Wingle Supply Company for the fresh dyed brown mulch to help tie everything together in the front.

This project isn’t quite finished yet as we wait on Mother Nature to cooperate with the last phase.

On your way to the Sussex County Fair this next week, take a look and let us know what you think. And while on your way, check out the hours of the Bodega and consider donating things that they need during hours of operation.

Our community is so close, and it all comes from PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE!
