Today marks the anniversary of the Staggers Rail Act of 1980. While most people have never heard of it, the law helped change the future of American railroading.
At a time when the industry was struggling, the Act gave railroads more freedom to work directly with customers, set competitive rates, and invest in their networks, helping rail transportation grow stronger for generations to come.
The legislation also helped create opportunities for short line railroads across the country. For companies like R. J. Corman, its impact can still be seen in the customers we serve and the communities we support.
More than 40 years later, we're proud to be part of an industry that continues to keep freight moving and connect customers and communities across America.
