PECCO crews responded to an emergency call following severe straight-line winds that caused significant damage to local power infrastructure.

A total of 10 power line poles were brought down, including two poles carrying transformers that were completely broken. The transformers fell to the ground, releasing insulating oil that entered a nearby storm drain and flowed into a local creek.

Our team quickly secured the area, removed the damaged transformers for proper disposal, and implemented containment and cleanup measures. Crews deployed skimming equipment in the creek to remove oil from the water and help protect the surrounding environment.

PECCO crews conducted hands-on Confined Space Rescue training to sharpen the skills needed for safe and effective emergency response.

Using a davit arm and winch system, one of our team members entered a tank and moved to the far end, simulating a downed worker. Once the “casualty” was located, our rescue team quickly set up and operated the davit arm to safely rescue them from the confined space.

Training like this ensures our crews are prepared to respond efficiently and safely when every second counts.

PECCO crews recently wrapped up a response to a hazardous materials spill involving acid—and let’s just say, this was the kind of job our team trains for.

Outfitted in Level B PPE, our crews mobilized with specialized equipment and supplied breathing air to safely tackle the situation. The material was successfully neutralized across the impacted areas, helping restore the site to a safe condition.

Serious work, done safely—but our crews will admit, they don’t mind the chance to gear up when the job calls for it.

Our crews responded to a UST leak caused by a line failure that impacted a nearby creek. An underflow dam was installed to contain and trap the released product, and absorbent boom was deployed.

Crews remain on a routine schedule to inspect and maintain containment measures and will continue monitoring the situation while taking all necessary steps to protect the environment.
