Modern lumber isn’t worse than lumber from 100 years ago. It’s different. Faster-grown wood behaves differently, which means the way you build with it matters more than ever.

At Okie Outdoor, we build with premium cedar, rough-cut Douglas fir, and SPF (spruce, pine, and fir), the dimensional lumber commonly found at home improvement stores. Each material has unique strengths, so we adjust our framing methods, fasteners, spans, and joinery accordingly.

The best structures aren’t built with one type of wood.

They’re built with an understanding of the wood you’re using.

There’s no better way to start the 4th of July weekend than a message like this.

This project was a perfect example of why we built Okie Outdoor the way we did.

We’re more than installers. We’re craftsmen.

Our goal has never been to simply show up and throw together another cookie cutter pergola. We want to build trust first and create outdoor spaces that are designed around the people who will actually use them.

These customers had dreamed about this space for years. They knew some of what they wanted, some of what they didn’t want, and had walked through ideas, plans, and bids with several companies along the way.

We were able to take the time to listen, understand their concerns, collaborate on solutions and craft something that was truly made for them.

Now they get to sit on the porch, enjoy their morning coffee, and look out at something that feels like it was always supposed to be there.

That’s why we do what we do.

A better way to enjoy your morning coffee.

We built this custom cedar wall onto an existing shop to give the homeowner a little more shade, wind protection, and privacy without closing the space in completely.
It completely changed the feel of the area, adding warmth, style, and function all at once.

Honest answer: it depends. The size, materials, add-ons, and site conditions all factor in. But we can tell you this: a well-built pergola or outdoor structure consistently adds more value to a home than it costs to build.
