We just found our first army worms of the season here in Norman, and they don't mess around. These small striped caterpillars travel in packs and can strip a healthy lawn bare in as little as 24 to 48 hours. One day it looks fine, a few days later there's a dead patch where grass used to be.

The good news: catching it early is easy if you know what to look for. More bird activity than usual, brown patches that spread fast (not a slow drought fade), and grass that looks chewed or ragged instead of just dry.
