The Kansas City Business Journal has once again recognized Garney as one of Kansas City’s Best Places to Work.

This award is based on feedback provided by employee-owners, who evaluated leadership, teamwork, benefits, and workplace culture.

Their feedback speaks to the environment we’ve built together and highlights the people who keep making Garney a great place to work.

In September, Garney employee-owners volunteered in Guatemala to support The Garney Foundation for Sustainable Futures' ongoing partnership with Adicay, Lipscomb University, and Inflo Design Group.

In San Vicente II, the team helped break ground on a new water project, spending three days excavating for a future water storage tank. In San Bartolomé, they joined the community in celebrating the completion of a water project that Garney employee-owners helped with last spring.

Beyond the project work, the team had the chance to connect with the people of San Vicente II and learn more about their community and what access to reliable water will mean for their families.

The Lake Ralph Hall Pipeline, Balancing Reservoir and Delivery Point, is the Engineering News-Record Texas Project of the Year after being recognized earlier this year as the Best Project in the Water/Environment category.

Garney served as the Construction Manager at Risk for Upper Trinity Regional Water District, working with lead design firm Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. - LAN and engineering partners Jacobs Solutions Inc. Black & Veatch, and Freese and Nichols, Inc.

The project links a new 7,500-acre reservoir to the regional water system with 32 miles of large-diameter pipeline, delivering up to 54 million more gallons of raw water daily to meet the needs of growing communities in North Texas.

Find out how the team completed the project on time and under budget, saving over $14 million: https://www.enr.com/articles/63820-smart-procurement-engineering-innovations-cut-14m-from-north-texas-pipeline-cost

Most of us don’t have to think twice about having reliable water. We just turn on the tap and it’s always there.

But having reliable water isn’t just luck. It’s the result of years of investment in the systems our communities rely on every day.

For Imagine a Day Without Water, we're highlighting the importance of continued investment in our nation's water infrastructure and the role we all play in protecting this essential resource for future generations.

Would you feel comfortable letting your own child work in an excavation on your jobsite?

For Superintendent James Gerdes, that question isn't hypothetical. His son works alongside him on the jobsite.

James knows his decisions affect more than himself. As an employee-owner, he takes that responsibility seriously, ensuring everyone receives the care and training he'd want for his own son.

To James, that's what an ownership mindset looks like. It means taking responsibility for the people around you and passing those standards to the next generation.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Bill Williams, Garney’s Executive Vice President of Pipe West and a longtime friend and leader to so many across our company.

Bill joined Garney in 2010 and spent 16 years making an impact on our people and our company. He was someone others trusted to step into difficult situations, bring people together, and find a way forward. He cared deeply about his people, generously shared what he knew, and invested in the success of those around him.

Away from work, Bill was a true cowboy. He loved horses, cattle, hunting, and rodeo, and shared his passion for team roping with his son, Wyatt. Above all, Bill loved his family.

We will miss his leadership, his friendship, and the person he was to so many of us.

Our hearts are with the entire Williams family, and everyone who knew and loved him.

The James River Crossing (JRX) has been named Engineering News-Record Mid-Atlantic’s 2026 Project of the Year and Best Project in the Water/Wastewater category.

Delivered for HRSD in partnership with Dewberry, the project pushed the limits of horizontal directional drilling by installing 5,700 feet of 42-inch HDPE beneath the James River.

The new pipeline links the Boat Harbor Pump Station to a land-based system that moves raw wastewater to the Nansemond Treatment Plant and SWIFT Facility. There, the water is treated and purified before being sent to recharge wells that help restore the region’s aquifers over time.

This recognition highlights both the technical complexity of the work and the project's long-term impact on regional water resources.
