Among the panelists was Ryan Budmayr, President and CEO of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and a native of Belle Fourche.

It was an honor to participate in the America 250 Celebration and NSPS 250th Ceremonial Dedication at Mount Rushmore!
I was privileged to deliver the Welcome to South Dakota address, introduce Commissioner Brock Greenfield, deliver the welcome remarks, and present the Governor’s Proclamation declaring October 19, 2026, Professional Land Surveyors Day in South Dakota.
At the Sanford Lab Homestake Visitor Center, I also had the pleasure of introducing Linda Foster, past President of the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS) and fellow South Dakota land surveyor.
Additionally, I gave a presentation titled “Surveying Down Under,” highlighting the underground surveying work conducted during construction of a new ventilation shaft.
The ceremony also included a solemn moment of silence in remembrance of Minnehaha County Deputy Katherine Frank. It was a meaningful opportunity to pause, reflect, and honor her memory.
A memorable day celebrating our nation's history, the surveying profession, and those who have served our communities.

We’re excited to welcome Randy to the judging panel for the Lead-Deadwood Arts Center’s 34th Annual Cheesecake Sampler & Battle of the Hors d’Oeuvres!

A Spearfish native, local business owner, and professional land surveyor, Randy represents District 31 in the South Dakota Senate and previously served seven years as a Lawrence County Commissioner. His community service has included board involvement with the Historic Homestake Opera House, local economic development organizations, and the Kenadi Jean Weis Foundation. We appreciate the time he gives back to our Black Hills communities and are grateful to have him join us!

Randy rounds out our judging panel alongside Jay Williams, Mitchell Stafford, and Sean Covel!

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with SDPB and visit about Spearfish and its history.

We talked about the Lab School, Hydro Electric 1, my early days in Spearfish, what our community was like before the Interstate, how the Interstate came to be, and the growth and changes we’ve seen over the years.

It was fun to look back at the Spearfish I knew growing up and realize just how much our community has changed, while appreciating where we’re at today. I’m grateful I got to share a little piece of that history.
