Sanford Underground Research Facility announced big news from nearly a mile underground! Scientists at SURF in Lead, SD, have made a historic breakthrough in the hunt for dark matter. Proud to see our community unlocking the secrets of the universe!

Astronomer Fritz Zwicky hypothesized the existence of dark matter in the 1930s. Almost a century later, scientists at the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead could have just proven that hypothesis was correct.

SecureSD is a $7 million program run by the South Dakota Attorney General’s Office and Dakota State University that delivers cybersecurity tools, training and technical support to local governments.
Senator Randy Deibert, R-Spearfish, was among the lawmakers who championed the $7 million appropriation in 2024, a response to Governor Kristi Noem rejecting a piece of $1 billion cybersecurity grants to states.
