PROJECT UPDATE!

Built in 1901 by famed architects Carrère and Hastings as part of Yale's bicentennial celebration, Woolsey Hall is a Beaux-Arts landmark and home to the renowned Newberry Memorial Organ. Over a century later, it remains one of Yale's most treasured gathering spaces and we're honored to help preserve it.

Cooper Historical Windows has partnered with Leonardo Windows on the preservation of Yale University's Woolsey Hall windows installing custom burnished brass bronze windows featuring motorized vertical pivot panels with 90° opening.

Getting here has taken serious planning: overseas manufacturing and shipping coordination, engineered crates hoisted over the parapet, simultaneous work on the East and West elevations, and precise removal of the original wood windows and copper cladding — all while protecting a National Historic Landmark.

Cooper Historical Windows recently completed work at Wesleyan University Olin Memorial Library in Middletown, Connecticut — replacing the bronze double entry doors at the building's main front entrance.

Olin Memorial Library was designed by architect Henry Bacon and carried out by McKim, Mead & White after Bacon's death. Bacon is best known for designing the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. The library was built between 1925 and 1927 and dedicated in 1928. Defined by six monumental pillars, the library's main entrance faces Church Street and has long served as a landmark on campus.

The bronze doors for this project were fabricated by our partners at Leonardo Window & Doors. Our scope of work included the full removal of the original bronze double door and installation of a new thermally broken architectural bronze door with an oil rubbed finish. The new doors feature laminated insulated glass, a bronze threshold, and hardware including closers, panic hardware, and electronic strike prep. Perimeter sealant and onsite glazing completed the installation.

Restoring history, one curve at a time. This curved entryway had just enough of the original pieces to recreate this stunning piece—any less and it would have been impossible. 🤯

The challenge? A subtle curve requiring an 18-foot radius jig and precise three-degree angles. It’s the type of one-of-a-kind project that pushes craftsmanship to its limits. 🙌🏼

Projects like this require using similar historic techniques and methods that the original craftsmen would have used—it’s the only way to maintain authenticity and stay true to the architectural integrity.⏳
