It’s easy to forget about your chimney, but taking 30 seconds to look up today could save you thousands of dollars later.
Right now is the perfect time to spot the "little things" before they turn into major structural damage. Grab your phone, zoom in, and check your chimney for these three warning signs:
💥Missing or crumbling mortar: Mortar is the "glue" holding the bricks together. If you see gaps, cracks, or hollow spaces between the bricks, water will get inside.
💥"Spalling" or peeling bricks: If the faces of your bricks look like they are flaking, chipping, or popping off, the brick itself is filling with water and deteriorating.
💥Loose or shifting bricks: If any bricks look crooked or out of line, the structural integrity of the chimney is already failing and needs immediate attention.
