A long-lasting exterior paint job starts before the first finish coat goes on.

Cleaning, scraping loose paint, sanding rough areas, repairing minor wood damage, caulking gaps, and priming where needed all help create a better surface for new paint. Living Colors Painting takes that preparation seriously.

We also apply exterior paint at full strength using a combination of brushing and rolling rather than relying on spray application. It takes more attention to detail, but the goal is a substantial, consistent coating built to withstand Massachusetts weather.

Good exterior painting is about doing the work underneath that helps the finished job last.

Peeling exterior paint isn’t only an appearance issue. Once paint begins to crack, flake, or peel away, the siding or wood underneath can become more exposed to rain, humidity, snow, and other New England weather.

Left untreated, a small paint problem can eventually mean more scraping, preparation, or wood repair before the surface can be repainted.

Catching deterioration early can help protect your home and make it easier to address the underlying problem before it gets worse.

Seeing peeling or exposed wood around your siding, trim, windows, or doors? Living Colors Painting can evaluate the condition of your exterior and recommend the right next step.

Summer may be winding down, but exterior painting season isn’t over yet.

Late summer can still be a good time to take care of peeling paint, weathered siding, worn trim, or other exterior surfaces before another New England winter arrives.

Addressing problem areas now can help protect exposed wood and other surfaces from moisture, snow, and freezing temperatures.

If exterior painting has been on your list this year, now is a good time to find out what your home needs and whether there is still time to get the project scheduled.

How often should you paint the exterior of your home?

For many Massachusetts homes, the answer is somewhere between 5 and 10 years, but there’s no one-size-fits-all schedule. Siding type, sun exposure, moisture, previous preparation, and the way the paint was applied can all affect how long a finish lasts.

At Living Colors Painting, we use a brush-and-roll application process and focus on careful preparation for a finish designed to hold up to New England weather.

Not sure if your home is ready? Look for fading, peeling, cracking, failed caulk, or exposed wood.
