Those who were wondering about this week's tile Trivia Tuesday question about the purpose of grout lines! The answer was All of the Above!

Grout lines allow the tile to move slightly as the house shifts! Grout is more elastic than mortar and therefore can expand and conteact easier! It also helps hold the tile in place and adds an appealing aesthetic to any tile work!

TILE TRIVIA TUESDAY ANSWER!

Congratulations to our one participant who guessed correctly, that the 3/16" V Notch trowel is the correct size for a standard 3"x6" tile.

The reason for this is that larger sizes paired with a square shape has a greater tendency to seep into your grout joints; forcing you to clean them out before you grout.

The smaller 1/8" trowel is primarily used for mosaic tiles that are smaller than 3"x6". It does not provide enough adhesion for the larger tile!
