Every plumber has that moment...

You start an emergency sewer repair expecting a straightforward spot repair, only to uncover Orangeburg pipe buried underground.

For those unfamiliar, Orangeburg was a wood pulp and tar pipe commonly installed from the 1940s–1970s. Many of these systems have now reached the end of their service life.

The section we uncovered was soft, misshapen, and partially collapsed—making sewer backups almost inevitable.

For homeowners, recurring drain issues and backups may be a sign of a failing sewer lateral, not just a simple clog.

Fortunately, we were able to complete the repair, restore service, and get our customer back up and running.

When the clog won’t budge from below… you go above. 👆

Shoutout to Brandon, our sewer specialist, taking it to the rooftop to get the job done right.

Sometimes, rooftop snaking is the only option—especially when:

• The main line is heavily blocked and ground-level access won’t reach it
• There’s no accessible or effective cleanout
• The stoppage is deep in the system and needs gravity and direct vertical access
• Previous attempts from below just aren’t cutting it

By accessing the line through the roof vent, we can get a straight shot down into the system—often the fastest and most effective way to clear tough blockages and restore flow.

It’s not always the easiest route… but it’s the one that gets results.
