Fourteen days. A light pass with the sprinkler every morning until it sprouts, and that is the whole job.

Most thin patches around here are not bad seed. They are good seed that got watered twice and then forgotten. 🌱

What is the weirdest thing that has ever popped up in your lawn overnight? 🍄

Mushrooms, for a lot of yards around here this week. Mow it Friday, wake up Monday to a crop nobody planted.

It is not a sick lawn. It is old roots and buried wood breaking down under the grass, and the mushrooms are just the part you can see. Mow them off and they are gone. Tell us what came up in your grass this week. 🌱

What do you do with the dirt plugs after your lawn gets aerated? 🌱

Nothing at all. Leave them right where they land. Those are soil cores, and a couple of weeks of rain and mowing melt them back into the lawn, right on top of the new seed. Rake them off and you have thrown away free topdressing.

Core aeration and overseeding is the fall job that decides how thick your grass comes back in the spring, and the window is open right now. Tell us in the comments if you have ever raked them up, we will not judge. 😄

What do you do when a patch of your lawn turns brown? 🌱

Before you water it again, grab the edge and tug. If it peels up like carpet, the roots are gone, and a lawn grub like the one in this photo is usually why.

More water will not fix that patch. Treating it and reseeding will, and early fall is the window. 💪

Around here it is a soccer ball, two kids and a lawn nobody is being careful on. ⚽
