From helping clients preserve high-value trees, to completing technical removals above homes, it is a pleasure to serve the island community!

Tree work is about people.

From the mechanics who keep trucks and chippers running, to the people ordering wood chips and firewood, there is a community of people involved in and, behind every tree job.

Every client since Tree Care MV started, has taken part in forming the slowly but ever growing tree service- Keeping the lights on, insurance paid, employees and subs paid, and equipment running.

I wound up on the island in 2012 working for Animal Health Care and fell in love with the island and the community immediately, but it wasn’t until starting Tree Care MV I started to really plug into the community and it has been both tremendously humbling and rewarding.

When I worked as a ‘groundie’ I thought the top-dog was the owner-operator and climber, and set my sights on acquiring the skills and experience to follow in my mentor, Doug’s, footsteps.
As an owner-operator, and with a view from above, it’s clear my role is a small one. Without good mechanics, referrals, excellent teamwork, repeat clients, island gardeners using chips, island firewood sellers and burners taking wood, not a single job would get done.

I’m grateful to be here, and have the opportunity to be one, small, part.

A new client asked for this oak tree to be removed prior to the installation of solar panels, after receiving a referral from her neighbor.

Scheduled removal day was a little breezy, effecting climbing and team communication . Day 2 was calm, sunny, and we removed the tree by rigging tops out off multiple points and until the stem was small enough to fell into a space in the yard between other trees.

JD and Zach on the ropes made my day a breeze in the best way, and Zach and I put heads together to come up with the safest way to complete the removal - felling after reaching a small enough height, with a Humboldt, mechanical advantage, and ensuring I cut through the hinge before the tree made contact with the ground to prevent it from coming back into the deck in any manner.

Join us on Thursday, June 12 for an inspiring conversation between Chick, founder of Island Spirit Kayak and MVM Program Director Laurel Redington. Hear how Chick turned a summer job into a 25-year journey—guiding in Thailand, paddling with whales, and building a business rooted in Island values and environmental stewardship.

More than a kayak, it’s a story about passion, purpose, and paddling your own path.
