We joined our partners North Palos School District 117 and IHC Construction Companies LLC for a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Sorrick Elementary School to celebrate completion of a Legat-designed retrofit that transforms administrative offices into pre-K spaces. Attendees also toured other parts of the two-phase project:

• A kindergarten expansion
• Renovations to Sorrick’s main offices
• A renovation and expansion that converted a daycare building on that same campus into the district’s administrative building

Congratulations to Eli Morales of Legat’s Oak Brook studio. She graduated from the Chicago Women In Architecture Ladders to Leadership program. The six-month program is designed to help women in architecture achieve executive-level, equity-based positions within the built environment.

Eli was selected from this year’s cohort of 15 graduates to speak at the graduation breakfast held at the Metropolitan in the Willis Tower. She told her story, shared her program experience, and reflected on the importance of exposing girls and minorities to architecture at an early age.

We joined our partners at Kewanee Park District and Estes Construction to break ground on a $4 million expansion that will transform Baker Park into a year-round destination for the community.

The Legat-designed project features a banquet hall with a veranda overlooking the golf course — an inviting setting for golf outings, weddings, and community celebrations. Other improvements include a golf simulator, an expanded pro shop, upgrades to the 19th Hole restaurant, and a new parking lot.

Construction is expected to wrap up next spring. We look forward to celebrating with the community!
