Sad news to report. Gordon Lightfoot has died, this according to the legendary singer/songwriter's social media sites.

The post simply read, "Gordon Lightfoot passed away this evening in a Toronto hospital at 7:30 p.m. More info to come.."

Lightfoot’s music made it into the hands of everyone from Elvis to Eric Clapton. Even Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Bob Dylan, hailed Lightfoot as one the greatest songwriters.

In his native Canada, over a dozen of Lightfoot’s singles landed in the Adult Contemporary Chart’s Top 10, with eight going all the way to #1. His popularity spilled into the States where he scored four Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 Hits - "If You Could Read My Mind”, "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald”, "Carefree Highway" and “Sundown” - the latter would top the chart.

Though Lightfoot had an abdominal aneurysm in the early 2000s, he bounced back, released new music & up until recently had a hefty tour schedule.

Lightfoot was 84 at the time of his passing. His memory will live on through his music.
