Because landscapers work outside, typically well distanced from anyone, the profession has been permitted to carry on its business. That doesn't mean we're not being careful. We have masks with us at all times, if you need to approach one of us. And then we'll try to keep it brief. For everyone's protection. Forgive us, but catching the virus could be fatal to the business. Not to mention...

Well, the high was 42 degrees today and the wind was whipping. But Jack was out there, a lonely landscaper, helping to usher in the spring. It's slow work this year...

Well, our crocuses are blooming, the daffodils are getting ready, and we're already out doing cleanups and lawn repairs and generally getting things ready for spring. Luckily, these tasks don't require close human contact, and so landscapers have been permitted to continue working. So far...

Spotty in my postings, as usual. My apologies - it's been a busy season! But a beautiful summer, really: not many hot, dry spells. Good rainfall - a good year for growing. We're getting ready now for the autumnal turn to leaf fall, longer mows, and finally, the clean-ups. Which are a good idea, because if you wait till spring, the wet mats of leaves are not only bad for your lawns and beds, but time consuming - and expensive - to clean up. They don't blow off easily like dry fall leaves...

New season starting up, believe it or not. Jack's out training our new guy, Brian, on the equipment now and they'll be starting cleanups by the end of the week. Assuming the snow's all melted...

It will be good to get out there again!

And then there were over 7" of rain in September - twice the average. What the hay?

Another strange summer - 4" of rain, in August, and we're only halfway through the month? It's been like monsoon season since the third week in July. And It's been tough to keep up with the mowing: it's not good for the grass or the aesthetics to cut the lawn when it's sopping wet. So when we finally do catch up, the grass is half a foot high and it takes two or even three cuts to bring it down to size and leave it looking nice. Which only slows you down all the more... But all that rain sure makes the lawns look lush for this time of year!

Hot one today! I promised to post more often this season, but I confess this spring has been so busy it's gotten away from us here. So it's been almost two months. And business is slowing down now, as what's becoming a drought in the Northeast has begun to slow lawn growth. We can only hope this summer won't be as bad as two years ago, when lawns died back and mowing just stirred the dust. Think rain!

It's been a long time between posts - about a year in fact. Interesting that spring was well underway last year by this time -- 80 degrees last April 16! But spring is on its way, surely. We're out doing cleanups already. The daffodils are coming into bloom out here in Oakham - can the grass be far behind? I'll be better about posting this year, promise!

Spring has sprung, and we're back to work! It all begins with spring cleanups, but after hitting 80 degrees again today, the grass will be raring to grow. Fertilizer's next -- then let the mowing begin!

Just a week from spring and it's a blizzard out there - a fine but heavy snow driven by high winds into sculpted waves around the shrubs and to crust upon the windows. I can't see the mailbox from the front door. But beware these ides of March, whose whipsaws of weather curry stoic resignation instead of rising hopes. Behind this snow will come the crocuses and soon the lawns will green. Call now to schedule your spring clean-up! ;-)

Fall cleanup time - we'll haul the first truckload of leaves for free!
