A new look at Westborough Middle School!

Our work with South San Francisco Unified School District continues to take shape, with major improvements across the campus including new synthetic turf, accessible pathways and ramps, concrete, paving, fencing, and upgraded site infrastructure.

From the refreshed athletic field to improved connections throughout the campus, it’s exciting to see these spaces come together for Westborough students and the school community.

Another project complete at Palo Alto High School. Our team transformed the existing softball field with new synthetic turf, an upgraded field drainage system, new fencing, and supporting utility improvements.

Throughout construction, our team worked closely with Palo Alto Unified School District to navigate existing utility challenges while minimizing impacts to campus operations.

We’re proud to help deliver an upgraded field for Palo Alto High School student athletes and the school community.

We’re so proud of Zeydi Gutierrez for representing McGuire and Hester at the NCEO Forum and sharing her perspective on what it means to build a strong culture of employee ownership.

During her session, Aligning Employee Owners Mindsets to Drive Impact, Zeydi focused on helping employee owners connect the work they do every day to the long term success of the company and the value we build together.

What makes us especially proud is seeing Zeydi share something she genuinely believes in: investing in our people, strengthening our ownership culture, and helping others understand the impact they can make.

For more than 100 years, the places we have called home have changed, but our commitment to building things right has remained the same.

McGuire and Hester’s story began in Oakland, with our headquarters operating out of Mike McGuire’s home at 14th Street and Hopkins. In 1938, we moved to a 16 acre waterfront property at the foot of 66th Avenue in East Oakland. In 1960, we built a new office at 66th Avenue to support a larger engineering staff and meet the growing demand for infrastructure throughout our communities. In 1989, after more than 50 years at 66th Avenue, we relocated a few blocks away to Railroad Avenue, a location that remains our headquarters today. In 2006, we established a permanent West Sacramento office, and in 2017, we opened an office on Harbor Bay Parkway in Alameda.

Through more than a century of change and growth, our purpose has stayed consistent: supporting our people, serving our communities, and building infrastructure that lasts.

Another project complete at Piner High School in Santa Rosa.

Our team delivered concrete and landscape improvements surrounding the campus’s new building, including a new courtyard designed to give students a welcoming outdoor space to enjoy.

We had a great time hosting the Cal Poly Construction Management Advisory Council (CMAC) Summer Mixer at our Alameda office.

It was a fun evening reconnecting with friends, meeting students, and recognizing local students in the 2026 Carpenter’s Apprenticeship Program cohort. It’s always rewarding to celebrate students gaining hands-on experience and building their future in the industry.

We’re grateful for our longstanding relationship with Cal Poly and everyone who joined us!

McGuire and Hester was proud to participate in this year’s UCON Chili Cook-Off and bring home the Third Place Judge’s Choice Award for our chili!

A big congratulations to Chef Wade Schell for serving up an award winning recipe and representing our team with pride.

Thank you to everyone who helped organize, support, and make the event a success. Events like the UCON Chili Cook-Off are a great opportunity to connect with our industry partners, strengthen relationships, and enjoy some friendly competition.

We are already looking forward to next year!
