Up next in our 30th Anniversary Series is a scattered-site affordable housing renovation project in Antioch CA!

Pinecrest Apartments (pictured here)- a 24-unit property- and Terrace Glen Apartments- a 32-unit property approximately a mile away- both received accessibility improvements, site improvements, new windows, doors, fixtures and finishes. Our firm was also the Architect for a previous round of renovations at both properties approximately 20 years prior. With each round of work, we're extending the life and quality of these sites, providing high quality places our neighbors can call home. Thank you to our clients RCDHousing for your repeated trust in us on these and many other projects through the last 30 years, and for our continued work ahead! The greenest building is always the building you already have, and we love working with you to develop and preserve affordable housing in the communities we serve!

Our principal recently attended the AIA Conference on Architecture & Design 2026, connecting with architects, designers, and industry leaders from across the country. It was an amazing opportunity to explore new ideas, discover emerging technologies, and engage in conversations shaping the future of architecture.

We're energized seeing our non-profit clients thrive, and seeing their impact grow year after year!
For Girls Inc. of Alameda County, that's a relationship that extends back over 25 years! For projects, that has included incremental renovations at their former San Leandro offices, Concordia Park Center in East Oakland, plus creating and supporting their headquarters in downtown Oakland. Along the way, we've hosted girls as summer interns in our office, cheered at their accomplishments while marveling how far they've come as individuals and the next generation of leaders at many a Strong Smart & Bold Luncheon and annual gala such as this one earlier this year. We're proud to be part of the Girls Inc. community. Their impact is one reason we do what we do! .ac Girls Inc.

This 120-unit affordable housing cooperative, originally built in the 1970s, is undergoing a multi-phase renovation started prior to our involvement. PWA is excited to be part of the next phase of the project which will include accessibility upgrades, community building renovations, exterior improvements and new site amenities.

Our principal, Winston Win, recently joined an AIA East Bay Design Tour of the UC Berkeley Gateway Project by Weiss/Manfredi (Lead Design Architect) and Gensler (Executive Architect). The Gateway will be the new home of the College of Computing, Data Science and Society, the first new college at UC Berkeley in 50 years. AIA East Bay Design Tours are a great way to learn more about great design, see transformational projects like this one, and connect with fellow professionals in the industry!

From the archives!: Sometimes the brief is simple but the path to approval and construction isn't immediately clear. Determined clients make all the difference!
For this project, our clients commissioned us in 2009, but approvals and construction came in 2017. Our design created a dedicated home office for him (lower level) and a light-filled art studio for her (upper level) on a small footprint. This approach, an early 2-story accessory building in West Berkeley, preserved cherished garden space between the new building and the couple's existing home.

Up next as part of our 30th Anniversary Series is this lovely family room addition tucked into a tranquil garden in Oakland's Rockridge district. For the Hamlin Residence, we created a jewel box of a room with beautifully crafted wood details- exposed structure, expansive windows and skylights, plus custom millwork. The space is a celebration of nature, light and materials, much like our original studio.
