Internet algorithms are always watching. Considering we are a roofing company and we buy roofing supplies, wouldn’t you guess that Facebook knows that and stocks our feed with ads for materials. While we have always ignored these ads, it got me to thinking today… With fuel prices rising. EVERYTHING we buy nowadays the cost is going up… and yet we keep seeing these other random roofing companies that are bidding roof replacements for less than our material and labor costs. When you consider we have licensed, insured, and qualified crews; warranted, first run quality supplies, directly from our national supplier, and we only use proper materials as they were intended/approved to be used, no wonder we cost more.

If you get surprisingly low costs on your roof replacement - be cautious! You might be finding some of these shingles being installed on YOUR roof! Not sure about you, but I am not trusting my home to second rate/left over shingles that have been sitting around for who knows how long deteriorating in the sun!

Plank Decking vs. Plywood Decking — What’s the Difference?

When replacing a roof, the type of wood decking underneath the shingles can affect the scope of the project.

🔹 Plank Decking
• Common in older homes
• Made of individual wood boards
• Boards can have small gaps between them
• During a roof replacement, any damaged or deteriorated boards are replaced

🔹 Plywood Decking
• Standard in newer construction
• Large solid sheets of wood
• Creates a continuous surface for roofing materials

When we remove your old roof, we inspect the decking underneath. If any boards or plywood are damaged, we replace those areas to ensure the new roof is installed on a solid structure.

Every home is a little different, which is why we always review the decking condition once the roof is removed.

SIP Panel Roof vs. Insulated Roof — What’s the Difference?

We get this question a lot from homeowners looking to upgrade their patios, lanais, or additions. The terms SIP panel roof and insulated roof are often used interchangeably, but they’re actually two very different systems.

SIP Panel Roof (Structural Insulated Panels)

SIP panels are a structural roofing system made of an insulating foam core sandwiched between two rigid boards (usually OSB). The panels act as both the roof structure and insulation at the same time.

Benefits:
✔ Structural strength
✔ High energy efficiency
✔ Often used for additions or enclosed spaces
✔ Can replace traditional framing in some designs

Insulated Roof Panels

Insulated roof panels are typically aluminum panels with foam insulation inside. These are most commonly used for patios, screen rooms, and lanais.

Benefits:
✔ Helps reduce heat under covered areas
✔ Lightweight and quick to install
✔ Popular for outdoor living spaces
✔ Lower cost than SIP systems

The Key Difference:
A SIP panel is structural, meaning it can support loads as part of the building system.

An insulated roof panel is primarily for comfort and shade, not full structural framing.

Both systems serve great purposes — it just depends on the type of space you’re building.

If you’re considering upgrading a patio cover or adding a new outdoor living space, make sure you understand which system is being proposed.

💡 Did You Know?

A Notice of Commencement (NOC) isn’t just paperwork — it protects both homeowners and roofers! 🏠🛠️

Here’s why it matters:
✅ For Homeowners: Prevents unauthorized contractors or lien claimants from filing a lien on your property.
✅ For Roofers: Confirms who’s responsible for the project and reduces the risk of fraudulent claims.
✅ Legal Clarity: Establishes the official start date of the job — important for permits, insurance, and timelines.
✅ Smooth Payments: Helps everyone know who can submit invoices or lien rights, avoiding confusion or disputes.

💡 Pro Tip: Always make sure your contractor files a Notice of Commencement before work begins. It’s a small step that can save big headaches later!

🏠 Why Pulling a Roofing Permit Matters

When it comes to roof repairs or replacements, some homeowners wonder, “Do we really need a permit?” The answer is yes — and here’s why:

✅ Safety First: Permits ensure that your roof meets local building codes and safety standards.
✅ Insurance Protection: Many insurance companies require permits for claims to be valid after storm damage.
✅ Quality Assurance: A permit often involves inspections, so any work is double-checked by local authorities.
✅ Protect Your Investment: Proper permitting helps maintain your home’s value and avoids legal headaches down the road.
Skipping a permit might seem easier in the short term, but it can lead to fines, denied insurance claims, or costly repairs later.

💡 Pro Tip: Always confirm your roofing contractor pulls the proper permits — it’s part of doing the job the right way!

Think your roof is leaking? It might not be your roof at all! 💦

Many homeowners call us when they see water stains or mold in their ceilings — and often, the culprit is attic moisture, not a leak.

Common causes:
• Poor ventilation 🚫💨
• High indoor humidity 💧
• Condensation buildup ❄️➡️💦

Signs your attic has moisture issues:
• Stains on the underside of the roof decking
• Musty odors
• Mold or mildew growth
• Rusted nails or metal vents

💡 Pro tip: Fixing attic moisture early prevents mold, rot, and even structural damage — often before you need a roof replacement!

If you’re noticing signs of water damage, call us first — we’ll identify the real issue and save you unnecessary roof costs.
