Guide to the lifespans of the different roof types and materials: Part 1:

Looking to install a new roof? Hoping to install a material that will last the long haul? If so, you're gonna want to continue reading.

3-Tab Asphalt Shingles: The most common of the different roof types for residential roofing. 3- Tab asphalt shingles are known for their low cost, their ease of installation, and their low-maintenance upkeep. Available in a wide variety of different colors, they fit in with homes of all shapes and sizes.
However, when it comes to durability, 3- Tab asphalt shingles are limited. Generally, regardless of what is done to maintain them, they will last around 15 years. After 15 years or so, they will be warped and curled by rain and sunshine at this point they will need to be replaced.

Architectural Asphalt Shingles: Architectural asphalt shingles are a slight step up from 3-Tab asphalt shingles, sporting superior construction quality as well as superior aesthetic. Low-maintenance and easy to install, they're available in a wide variety of styles and colors. Due to their superior construction quality, architectural singles last longer that 3-Tab shingles. Made out of fiberglass, ceramic, and asphalt, they do a better job of withstanding wind, rain, and sunshine. As such, whereas 3- Tabs shingles last around 15 years, Architectural shingles last around 20-30 years.

Roofing Tips From The Professionals:

You may not spend much time thinking about roof's, but they're one of the most important parts of your home. A good roof will protect a home, keeping it in excellent condition. That's way it's so important to be informed when it comes to roofing.
** In order to ensure that your roof stays in good condition, make sure that you trim the trees in the surrounding areas. This will prevent any branches from scuffing the surface of your roof which could eventually lead to more serious problems. This also helps prevent any fungus or mold grow on your roof.
** One of the best way to find a source of a roof leak is to use water itself. it can be tricky to see where a leak is coming from in the middle of a storm, but a garden hose will allow you to test your roof until the leak has been found.

Check back later for additional Tips From the Professionals, until then if you are in need of a roofing contractor, give us a call we would be glad to come out, and check for any problems you be experiencing.

Asphalt Roof Shingles Quality:
Shingle styles have changed over the years. The common three-tab shingles of the 1950's and 1960's are now joined by no-cutout shingles, multitab shingles, and laminated "architectural" shingles.
Laminated asphalt roof shingles provide deep shadow lines and a heavily textured appearance, some simulating wood or slate. These now account for over half the shingles sold.

Shingles quality is often difficult to determine visually since it is based largely on hidden factors such as strength of the reinforcing mat (organic felt or fiberglass), the strength and flexibility of the asphalt, and the amount and type of fillers used. In most cases, however, the guidelines outlined can help to select shingles that perform as promised

Organic vs Fiberglass Asphalt Shingles:

Organic shingles are built around a thick inner mat made of wood fibers or recycled paper saturated with soft asphalt. Fiberglass shingles, on the other hand, use a lightweight nonwoven fiberglass held together with phenolic resin.

Both shingles are then coated on top with a layer of harder asphalt and fillers and topped with colored stone to create a decorative surface and protect against ultraviolet light.
A thin layer of asphalt on the bottom is coated with a non-sticking dusting that keeps the shingles from sticking in the bundle. Each type has its pros and cons.

#7. Brand:
Like any other products shingle brands range in quality. Talk to your local roofer about different brands of shingles, what they like to install, and why. Many shingle brands are comparable but there are differences.

#9. What Can Your Roofer Do?

The thicker the shingle is the more depth it provides. Triple-laminate asphalt shingles are among the thickest which means they create the most depth and shadows. Depth is necessary for regal style homes.
