Agapanthus🪻

These Agapanthus plants, also known as Lily of the Nile, feature striking clusters of purple flowers blooming on tall stalks. They are clump-forming perennials that prefer full sun and well-drained soil, making them ideal for garden borders or landscape accents. The strap-like green foliage remains tidy, while the flowers typically appear from summer to fall.

We grew Dahlias! So much fun! What we learned about them:

1) you have to have a lot of patience for them to bloom 😂

2) you need to buy support stakes (b/c these grew up to 5 feet tall) 🌱🪴

3) they love to wilt in the FL heat ☀️

4) they need consistent watering 💦

5) they have the most beautiful blooms 🌸

Look at these beautiful Sunpatiens! Absolutely stunning!

Florida-Specific Care Tips for Sunpatiens:

Sun Exposure: While they can handle full sun, Florida's harsh mid-summer heat is best tolerated with some afternoon shade.

Watering: Water deeply after planting to establish the root system. They require consistent moisture but must be in well-draining soil to prevent stem and root rot.

Winter Hardiness: SunPatiens will not survive freezing temperatures. In frost-free areas of South Florida, they can be treated as a perennial, but in most of the state, they are grown as an annual.

This is the bane of every homeowner in the neighborhood. It is referred to as Torpedo Grass due to the way the root “torpedo’s” underground up to three feet, putting up shoots every few inches along the way. It is nearly impossible to pull up completely, and it is resistant to herbicides which usually kill only the above ground leafs and not the main root. This invasive grass travels into your beds from your yard which commonly has some mixed among your turf. Those of you near water will have a stronger likelihood of infestation. This stuff loves wet beds, waterlogged, low grades, and shrubs to get tangled up in. The best way to get rid of this grass is to mix double the recommended amount of your favorite herbicide and spray once a week like religion, for six weeks. Keep your beds from getting waterlogged, and invest in bed bordering that anchors as far into the turf and soil as possible. Torpedo Grass will peak during the summer, rainy season.
