POSITION TITLE:
Truck Driver
JOB SUMMARY:
The truck driver is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of several types of trucks including, but not limited to, tractor trailers, single axle, tandem axle, and tri-axle dump trucks with and without trailers as well as ½ ton, ¾ ton, and 1 ton pickup trucks with and without trailers. In addition, the driver is responsible for performing daily maintenance and safety checks on trucks. Experience driving these types of vehicles, experience working in the construction industry, and the ability to work under limited direction and supervision are required for this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Perform preventative maintenance on trucks as required including parts lubrication and fluid and filter changes
• Perform pre-trip inspections of vehicle and correctly complete driver’s log book
• Operate several types of trucks, including but not limited to, tractor trailers, single axle, tandem axle, and tri-axle dump trucks with and without trailers as well as ½ ton, ¾ ton, and 1 ton pickup trucks with and without trailers.
• Operate tri-axle dump trucks to transport stone, gravel, limestone, topsoil, dirt, concrete and other debris to and from construction sites
• Operate tractor-trailers and tri-axle dump trucks with tag trailers to transport heavy equipment to and from construction sites
• Maneuver and control vehicle in a safe fashion on construction sites as well as over the road conditions
• Load and unload all equipment and materials safely and ensure all loads are properly secured
• Load trucks safely and efficiently with excavators, front loaders, backhoes, and skid steers
• Communicate objectives with laborers and crew members to efficiently complete construction projects
• Communicate effectively and courteously with project engineers, owners, and the general public
• Perform other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
• Must possess and maintain a valid Pennsylvania Class A CDL driver’s license
• Must have experience driving commercial vehicles with a GVWR of 73,280 lbs and a combination GVWR of 80,000 lbs in all weather conditions including rain, snow, ice, and dry conditions
• Must have a working knowledge of preventative maintenance practices for trucks listed above
• Must have extensive knowledge of safe operating practices for all trucks listed above
• Must have the ability to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The truck driver will be working primarily outdoors with exposure to all types of weather and temperatures. He/She must be prepared to work in the rain or snow as well as through periods of extreme heat and cold. He/She may also be exposed to dangerous and/or toxic substances and must take necessary precautions to protect eyes, nose and skin from irritation. Furthermore, The truck driver has a strenuous and physically demanding job. He/She will, at times, be lifting, pulling, and managing heavy equipment and objects.
